Aside from the ISO track numbers, the NAGRA VI raises the quality bar for all current machines that I know of. The ergonomic interface is very much like the older analog Nagras that we older guys felt comfortable using for decades before the first DAT machines started to arrive on the pro scene.
The software is intuitively logical and can be accessed on the fly, even while in REC mode. It seems to be built to the same tolerances of a fine Swiss watch. Who would expect less from Kudelski? It feels good to work with precision equipment again. The price , at $7500, is half of what I expected.
The ONLY drawback is that this machine only has four analog inputs, although they are high quality inputs with adjustable and impeccable mic pres. In addition there are two AES pair inputs. If I were in the business of recording live classical music, this would be my machine of choice. It sounds like high quality analog and, yes, elegant.
