  1. Paul, Would you guys consider a routing preset that was a simple Inputs 1-4, routed to tracks LRAB and were armed by simply turning on the channel. I am looking at adding the CL-8, but it will be a few jobs before that can happen? Thanks, Mark
  2. Ok, Spent the day with 1.60 in the bag and can comment a bit. 1. Turning the LCD on/off is a bit more work as now you have to Press the Illuminate button and press the Wheel.. 2. If you are running/gunning with quick changes I almost stumble by not arming a track. Caught it, but you have to be on your toes not simply plug in, turn on, turn on a channel and go. 3. The changes to the Folder/File accessing is nice 4. Didn't get a chance play with the extra tracks. I was bouncing between 1 boom and three lavs. In my Petrol bag having to scroll around and arm/disarm tracks really cries out for the CL8 to come into play.. Otherwise it was its usual rock solid performance. Mark L
  3. Greetings, Just downloaded the latest firmware and it has a behavior that is a bit scary. First my normal setup, pretty straight forward Inputs 1-4 routed to tracks R/L/A/B. If channel 1 was turned on, just the simple act of turning on the channel armed the track for recording. I'm on a movie now where I'm swapping between 1 and 3 inputs at a moments notice. The disturbing new behavior is you MUST enter a menu and arm/disarm a track to get it to record. You now visit menus more often if you are changing setups often. Just afraid I'll miss a track because you still hear a track even if the track is NOT armed.. Just a heads up of the new way. Anyone know if you can downgrade firmware?
  4. Howdy, Had a surreal encounter on set today. Outdoors in a public city park. Very small crew with no security. We had some kids come near us and at first all was OK but after a while they just felt the need to start cursing at us as loud as they could. It was extremely uncomfortable experience, I felt bad for the actors because they were facing this vocal shellacking and marshaled through it ok. I'm listening back to the tracks now and you can sense the increasing amount of angst in the crew.. Very strange day.. On an up note, it was my first day with my new Lectro SR with (2)SMa combo. Very nice!! I use a Hawkwoods adapter to power the SR, didn't have to worry about the battery all day... Mark L
  5. Greetings, I want to thank everyone for insight into how each approach the job. The actual genesis of my question stems from the benefit of having an all battery powered rig. My main mixer is a Yamaha 01v96, which looks like having it converted to run on DC Batteries is out of the question. I know a large/expensive battery-inverter combo would work, but if I cut out the mixer and went all Sound Devices (788t + CL8), that setup has no eq facility. Yea, wish I could afford a Cooper or other high end mixer, not quite there yet. Thanks, Mark L
  6. Jeff, Do you think putting some kind of silicon type sealant at the crease of the mk41 and cmc body would help? From everything I've read the problem is in the connection and not that the mic always fails in humidity. Have you ever heard the MKH40 which has very similar specs as the Schoeps? Thanks, ML
  7. Jeff, Thanks for the reply, THAT WAS A SET!! Wow, very nice job. With the discussions about Schoeps and humidity, looks like it holds up well in the cold. Very nice and natural sound on the movie.. Mark L
  8. Jeff, Watching "The Family Stone" right now. Did you do any acoustic treatment while on those Interior shots?. Doesn't seem to have a lot of echo in the dialog. Can I also assume this is a Tour De Schoeps mic choice?? Thanks, Mark L
  9. Randy, In reference to processing, do you count channel limiters? I run my 788 with them on pretty much all the time, but I will change the db level that it kicks in. Better than digital distortion, though I have had some women scream that overloaded the mic. Had the -10 pad kicked and and she still overloaded the poor thing.. Mark L
  10. Thanks for all the feedback. Hoping "Linear Fader" expansion for the 788t that I heard tell they are looking into would have some sort of EQ function. Right now, no choice when I'm all battery to have no EQ..
  11. Mick, Thanks for you reply, if I may ask what mixer do you use? Is the KMR-81 your primary mic for interiors? I just did an episode for Sundance channel's Big ideas. It was a a bio-fuel ethanol plant, besides the smell I don't think any EQ would have helped. Tag team Tram TR50's with Sanken CS3. Thanks, Mark L
  12. Posted to who R U thread. I use the 788t and looking to get the new CL-8 and whatever there "FADER" based expansion will be in the future. My current mixer the the Yamaha Digital 01V96 which is an AC only mixer. Great unit, very flexible with great fx/eq. The CL8/788t has no ability to EQ the signal, just compress/limit which works fine. Trying to make my rig more battery based, but can justify dropping 20 large on a sonosax just for the luxury of battery. I rip DVD's into their 5.1 streams just to listen to the middle channel and play guess the mic. Next great debate, Scheops vs Senn vs AKG (My current hyper CK63).. Mark L
  13. Question, How often do you use EQ while recording dialog on location? If you do, is it to enhance the dialog or more to cut out some unwanted frequency. Using a low cut filter doesn't count as most will use it to cut the low rumble. Thx
