  1. Did anybody know that movie director Lee Tamahori was a boom op. long ago? People might remember Lee the most from ..... well, urm....having a " run - in " with the law a couple of years ago in LA.
  2. Hey Jeff, What ever happened to Pat Suraci ? . I am sure he is retired now. Was he from NY ? . A pal of mine used him on a movie here in LA about 13 yrs ago. Haven't heard if he went into retirement after that. Just Curious .
  3. Tonight at 8:00 on VH1 Classic's Channel. What a great flick, and I have enjoyed reading the comments and history of it on Jeff's website . Anybody who hasn't seen it check it out !
  4. Hey Crew, Any stories or memories from " Down and Out in Bev. Hills that stand out ?
  5. who was the cableman on the movie ? was it you Crew ?
  6. Of course my comment was a joke. Jeeeeeezzz . Somebody tell AFMY to get off the cross All of us shouldn't care. Let us go back to enjoying Jeff's website. Who cares if AMFY wants to be hidden? Lets call a spade a spade, of course his comments wouldn't be so harsh sometimes if his full name was out in the open in his screen name. Let the guy be a " guest " forever .
  7. Lets take a poll of who AFMY is ? I think it is Ike Magal , ha ha .- a voice from mixer's past .
  8. I have been in this situation a bunch of times. In fact - it I bet your " director " on this movie was hand-picked to be a " shut up and say nothing " kind of guy. Who would basically be Vincent's Lap Dog and go along with anything that Vincent did. I got from your earlier first post chris that Vincent kind of took over the directing job and at some point ran everything. I did a movie 10 yrs ago with another actor like Vincent....It was Jim Belushi - he was in my opinion Charles Manson reincarnated with a SAG card. -
  9. What was the budget on this film ? It seems like it was maybe an independent film and the budget was small. There is one way looking at the show like you did as a learning situation . However if I could play devils advocate for a second..... I think some actors, and in your case a guy who is a control freak, making these comments to you and banging his fist on a table when you asked to get wild lines.- Your doing your job !!!!! He has no reason to question you ( at least in the way he did ) , . If the budget was small he should of be thanking everybody for there help. Sometimes I have learned when you get you paycheck on thursday's it sometimes ain't worth it !. - PS I worked with the sound mixer you did the film with about 13yrs ago...that probablly didn't help the situation either.
  10. Cool, I thought when I first posted this it wasn't going to get that much attention. Seems like the stedi-cam shot in " Goodfellas " comes up alot in discussion sometimes. Funny though....lots of times in TV there are complicated shots perhaps once an episode. And you can bang it out in a couple of hours then on too the next scene. But in features they seem to stand out a little more. Thanks for the feed back .
  11. Just curious to hear some thoughts on since the writers strike was settled a month ago, does it still seem there is strike fatigue looming. And with SAG's deadline coming does there seem to be still a pause in production life around town. Mainly TV shows that I guess are coming back now for a handful of shows then still taking the summer off and starting back in late July to start there " normal " timeline of shooting. Some shows wont start filming until mid May that have been off since last Nov. when they ran out of scripts and shut down. I am starting a show next month that was supposed to start last Nov. Has the writers strike screwed up the town that much ?
  12. Hey , I'd like maybe to pick some brains out there.....and maybe start a new topic for a while. Talking about really hard shots in film's and how the sound guys approached or pulled it off. Forgeting what the result was for a second ADR or NO ADR, just how the sound dept even tackled getting a good guide track for dailes. What made me think of this was watching " Bonfire of the Vanities " and that insane stedicam shot in the beginning of the film that goes through parking gargaes , elevators, ballrooms, etc..., I am sure we all know the scene I am explaining. Does anybody in this forum know how or begin to think of the approch ? Just curious . Or any other examples of complicated things we have all seen. These days might be easier than a while ago with the advanced tech. of good radio booms and better radio-mic's that back in the day were not around . Example: Nagra's , and no more than 2 track machines were around , No sanken's, etc.etc.....
  13. INT. MAXIMUM PRISON - Seconds Later A guard comes in and yells " GRACE ! " . ( offscreen dialogue )
  14. I will say I noticed , I cant recall if it was the same episode, is that when John Couger Mellencamp was on and I heard a clicking noise ( I thought he was tapping a pen below frame ) that infact it was his chains around his neck hitting his lav. Then Bill cut to a guest on satellite for an interview, and when they returned to the panel the chains had been removed . The sound crew still had their heads in the game.
  15. Anybody ever set up ON TOP of the cab ? . Where the spare tire is kept. So you are "above" all the action. I worked with a mixer once that did that. A scene envolving 5 actors in a convertable with the top down.
  16. Just out of curiosity....I had once worked with a mixer that about 100% of the time , when we would shoot outside, even if the boom was on the frame line - on a close up, still pump the radio mic the actor would have on to " fill in " the track . Any mixers thoughts on that ?
