  1. The 'Start TC' field is automatically generated from the iDevice's internal clock when a new take is created. It can also be entered and edited manually. Accepting an external feed is on the list of to-do's! Hopefully soon.
  2. Yes, Android version is on the way. Hopefully within the next week.
  3. I agree, it isn't for every production. But I've found it would be useful for many. We'll see.
  4. Just wanted to announce the release of an iPhone and iPad app I've been working on, Sound Report Writer. You can download directly at the link below (should be searchable sometime later today) for $20. You can also see a product demo at www.inaudiblelabs.com/products.html http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sound-report-writer/id492004803?ls=1&mt=8
  5. Interesting, JW. While I fully expect every time for the specs from Post to come back as 24bit/48khz, they usually come back with 16 bit. Not sure why. Maybe it still is to accomodate something in their chain, or maybe they think it does, at least.
  6. I actually bought one a couple months ago while on a show. We were shooting at an outdoor outfitter shop and the owner gave us all 30% off whatever we bought. I got a black Patagonia duffe/backpack. Fully weatherproof and heavy duty build quality and flaps overbite zippers. I travel exclusively with that thing now. Several sizes out there.
  7. For the recorders that offer "unique IDs" (Zaxcom, Cantar, Nagra), are these incremental, being based on the previous unique ID or random like P2?
  8. There's the next big thing…an Otterbox for your Audi!
  9. Congrats to all the new dads out there! I, too, have a new one in the house and was able to take off a month and a half and turn down a 5 week job in NYC to stay home. Totally worth it though.
  10. This is probably most telling in the lower-mid tiers. If you're making $80,000 working every day of the year, is it really worth it? (of course not is the answer). An example of scale...365 days at $600/day grosses you $219,000. I'm willing to bet that the ultimate lesson here is to raise your rates, for you and/or your gear. Seems obvious, but well evidenced above.
  11. Absolutely, Michael. The more info out there the better. It would definitely shed some light on what might be best for our choices. Knowledge is power. I wasn't sure how people would respond, but I'm glad to see that everyone shares my curiosity. Right to work states would be an interesting field as well.
  12. Yeah, I thought this would be interesting to see. Definitely would love to see a detailed chart (type of jobs, avg length of project, experience, % of jobs with/without gear, etc), even including home base since that seems to be such a big topic here.
  13. I've had a great year so far. And with today being my last day to work this year, I wondered exactly how good I did. Because I am curious, I thought this anonymous poll would be for the greater benefit of everyone. PS - I'm trying tk do this with the native JW poll feature, but can't see it in the preview, so hopefully it works.
  14. I'm in Dallas and don't know of anything or anyone in that area.
  15. My SOP: R1a--->camera Rec on my 552 or 788 Usually with slate
  16. Woot.com has these Centon 32GB Class 10 SDHC cards for $25 + $5 s/h. I actually own three of these SD cards for use in my 552 and Canon T2i and am happy to report they work great. This deal ends today, so if you're in the market, you might want to jump on it soon.
  17. I'd love to consolidate my antenna distro setup into that one little box. I'm curious to see a performance comparison. Based on the specs, it looks like it'll do just fine up against something like this.
  18. I would also suggest contacting your local Two Men and a Truck. My friend used to own one and gave me a few of his blankets. They have their own brand. Very nice, thick, one side white, one side black. Lasts forever.
  19. Any notes you enter in the 744T will in fact show up in Wave Agent to print a sound report. Like Matt mentioned earlier, the CL-1 will only get you the ability to use a keyboard. You can use it for track names, scene names, notes, etc. Any metadata you enter will show up in Wave Agent. The CL-1 is not limited to just track and scene names. It is also possible with the 788T, but when used with the CL-WiFi you don't need a CL-1, just an iPhone, iPod, or iPad, to edit any metadata, along with other routing controls, etc. More to read about that elsewhere. A 744T/442 or 552 combo is still gonna run you around $4k-$5k, whereas a 788T is like $7k with a CL-8. Of course there are other recorders, but it looks like you're set on a SD product, of which I'm personally a fan of.
  20. You have a couple choices: 1) Do it the way it's been done for years...carbon copy paper forms. Trew has some samples on their site here (go to the sound reports tab) that just take a trip to your local Kinko's. 2) Digitally. Assuming you have time to name tracks and scenes within the 744T, Wave Agent would do just fine for creating sound reports as you wrap. Depending on the "professionalism" of the shoot, you can usually just put the PDF in the daily folder and leave it that.
  21. I'm sure some of you got the message already, but the new COS-11 mounts from LMC are in. Visit them directly or on my blog.
  22. I've had the Lav Bullet for several months and find great times to use it. Not sure I would use it in conjunction with a rod though. I use a fiberglass cable puller (for home theater installers to run speaker wire) and that works just find when I need to go to the ankle.
  23. The CL-WiFi app on the iPhone/iPad has an update available. With that and the 2.15 update on the 788T, I think a few things will run smoother. I had trouble getting the WEP64 security to work with the 2.15 788T and 1.0.0 app version, but it looks like they need each other to function. No mention of that anywhere else.
