  1. I realize this is a bit of a late addition to this discussion, however I wanted to add one more pre-amp to the line up. In addition to our Mini Papi, we brought out a 2 channel version called the Papi Pico. It has 2 channels with a headphone amp and optional Timecode Generator. It is the same small size as the Mini Papi, (7.29 cubic inches). Channel A is similar to the Mini Papi with all the features, Channel B is a pre-amp without phantom power. There is a headphone amp with rotary volume, 4 settings and a return. The timecode generator supports all standard frame rates, has variable level output, and an internal battery that is good up to 12 hours. This could be used in a boom kit. Channel A for the boom mic, and channel B for IFB. It powers from 5 to 18 volts so you can use a USB power pack. Here is the downlink which will give you more information and the spec’s: https://www.mozegear.com/papipico This is shipping now.
  2. The 14.5V will be fine. Both products are basically the same although there is a small variation in the power supply. If you have any concerns or problems, please let me know.
  3. As Brandon said we actually shipped out some units early. We waited to announce them after we got more control over our stock and caught up on some orders. Thanks Guys! We can make them with Green if you would prefer that. Also can you contact me regarding the strobe. 949-273-6699 Thanks
  4. It's still Red to match our other units. However let me check to see if we can do the green as an option. The voltage is from 7 to 14.

  6. Sorry I have taken so long to answer but I wanted to verify some of the information. I’m not sure if I can totally answer your questions but I will I’ll try. The microphone was an omni-directional so it would have probably picked up the ambiance sounds. As for “finicky”, I cannot answer for other systems available at the time since we are most familiar with Micron. Wireless systems at the time suffered due to lack of diversity and companding. Micron receivers were sensitive with a very good noise floor which would have helped with these short comings. Most wireless systems transmitted at 50 mW and had to deal with England’s restrictions on wireless frequencies (only 4 frequencies were legal at the time). This caused problems with large productions & theatre. When Micron designed the wireless for Andrew Lloyd Weber’s show "Starlight Express”, they had to design 21 channels for actors on roller-skates who were moving around the theatre. Obviously they had to get very creative to do this. With that being said, TFS was the exception. They transmitted at about 100 mW and had their own frequencies to work with. Hope that helps
  7. Actually by 1979 the BBC used wireless quite a bit. The chances are very good that a Micron Wireless was used on this shoot since that is predominately what the BBC used in 1979. The lav was most likely an ECM 50. Since you are interested in technology from that era: *Micron was founded by a former BBC engineer (Neville Druce) and they came out with their first wireless system in the early 1970’s. *This shoot could have been done by BBC TFS (Television Film Studios). Micron designed special equipment specifically for BBC TFS. These wireless systems were different in that they were higher power and they had their own frequencies. This special design made it more practical to come out of a building and go into van. *This was probably not a diversity system. However the BBC did a lot of research into diversity at that time. They researched diversity up to 4 channels and found dual channel diversity to be most effective for the money.
  8. The phantom power unit is actually 4.6 cubic inches. However it has a different form factor at 4.2” long and 0.52” thick. The thinness may make it look larger in the picture. When evaluating what to use, I know there are other factors too. 1.) budget 2.)Location - European products have easier access and service for Europeans and US products vice versa… However the parameters for a phantom power unit have been challenging. 1.) cost - smaller units cost more and I’m not sure this product will support a high price 2.) battery life - most want 10-12 hours 3.) Speed & Flexibility - can it be thrown into multiple situations very quickly So here are some thoughts on a new form factor… Boom Belt - We are exploring a boom belt (similar to versa flex’s TX belt). The unit would be placed sideways within a belt that would have additional pouches for a transmitter and IFB. Possible advantages… 1.) The belt would be pretty flush with the body and only stick out about a 1/2” to 3/4”. It would also be about 2-3” long and eliminate a large extruding bag. A thin belt would make running, bending, and sitting easier. 2.) ergonomic design - It is thin so the weight is more evenly distributed which places less stress on the back. Plant mic - The thinness can also make it easy to hide in some situations like on a sun visor… Boom Pole - We have a boom pole mount that makes it easy and can securely attach a transmitter.
  9. Quick overview of the QBit Size is only 3/4 of a cubic inch Durable milled aluminum case Locking connector (BNC with optional Lemo) Accurate timecode Standard cables can be used Hirose connector offers several types of power Back up battery that will last around 4.5 hours Made in the USA Service centers in the USA & UK Just $199 FYI: We have several other new products that will be announced on Monday.
  10. I just wanted to clear things up regarding Mozegear. For awhile, we received our extrusions from Micron in England. However, we now have our extrusions custom-made from a company in the USA who produces the extrusions in the USA. All other remaining pieces (tops, bottoms etc...) are manufactured in-house.
  11. Hi Chris, Thanks for the interest. There are actually 2 powering connectors. The first and primary connector is the hirose. The micro USB is actually an alternative powering connector. Since the industry has been changing, we have found that virtually all bags and cameras have some powering solution. Even most boom op's in the US have a smaller bag. For this reason we reevaluated internal batteries since they had weight, size, and cost to many who have other powering solutions already in place. That being said, traditionally powering solutions are very expensive and often very heavy so we wanted to give an alternative way to power and that is where the micro USB comes in. You can literally attach a USB power supply that is the size of a credit card to the unit and put it in a small bag for the boom op, a plant mic situation, or even on the boom. You can also connect a USB power supply via the more durable hirose connector and avoid the weight and cost of larger powering solutions. To make it more flexible both the micro USB and hirose connector at the same time. So there are a lot of powering opportunities with the Mini Papi. I hope this answers your questions. Overall we feel the Mini Papi is a good alternative to larger phantom power pre amps that have restricted use due to their size. Thanks for your comments and suggestions. We actually appreciate them and listen. The 2XG will provide up to 28dB of extra gain. The Mini Papi has 80 dB with a range of 20dB to 80dB. It also has a limiter and basscut and supplies phantom power. Neither unit has internally powering although the Mini Papi has alternative powering via a micro USB connector. May I ask how you were planning on using it which will help me in explaining the products for your applications?
  12. Make sure you come see us tomorrow morning at NAB. Steve Tibbo will be going us for a "meet and greet" at 10:30 and then at 11:30 he will be doing the drawing for a free Q series timecode generator or our new 2XG. (your choice). Make sure you don't miss it!!!
  13. Thanks - coming soon! No it is externally powered although it has alternative powering available through a micro usb. This keeps the unit small, lightweight, so that it can be easily used in a boom op bag or on a camera. It can also be placed in remote situations without having to worry about battery life.
  14. Thanks Rado, We are excited about the new products. All 3 are very small and we feel very versatile. Looking forward to your input down the road. We have to send some back with Conrad so you can give us your opinion. Coming to the "bay area" soon!
  15. Derek, The mini papi is externally powered only. We wanted something small that can be used in many situations (including on cameras). It can also be powered through the micro USB on the top. This way you can power it from something that can be purchased anywhere and is rechargeable. You don't actually have to power it from an IDX or similar system. Since many boom op's use a small bag on their waist, the alternative powering through the micro USB can be used and batteries don't have to be changed during the day. Bab, The 2XG is a 2 channel gain booster. It has 28db of gain whereas the Mini Papi is a full pre-amp with a bass cut, limiter, and phantom power. The 2XG is very small and designed to give control and more gain to 1.) menu driven line level channels 2.) busses 3.) line level inputs on mixers and recorders. Hi Jez, The 2XG is primarily designed for a bag. We felt that adding to the size, weight, and cost would not really be an advantage for most users of this product. However the Mini Papi does have a micro USB powering option (as stated above). Again we were trying to keep down the size, weight and cost for those who don't really need the internally powering. We agree that some users will prefer something internally powered, so we will be looking at a unit that can be internally powered down the road.
  16. Hi Guys, Well I just got back to the hotel room where there is a decently working internet so I'm just catching up It was great seeing so many of you today. I love this time of year where I get to talk with all of you and I'm looking forward to ramps tomorrow night where I can see so many more. For those who haven't come by, please don't miss us. We are along the back wall in the central hall.
  17. Mozegear at NAB - What’s NEW Please come by and see us at NAB. Our stand is C8949 which is just one row over from last year. We are going to be showing our new line of products including our newest product, the 2XG, which stands for 2 channel extra gain. It is a 2 channel Gain Booster that is designed to be used with wireless receivers and the line level inputs on your mixer. The 2XG will be shipping after NAB. The price is $399. Our second new product, the PIP, is a very small phantom power module. It will start shipping in about 7 weeks. Our last product, the Mini Papi, is a mini pre-amp with phantom power that for any use since it so small. You can read more about the 2XG, PIP, and Mini Papi at www.mozegear.com. Most importantly, please come visit us at NAB!!!
  18. Hey Rado, One of the challenges of "small" is the space for the instruction panel (which I am sure you will agree with). We had a couple of sleaves made of elastic with velcro on the back. That way the information can be accessed. We sent out a few and then got so busy with the PIP, PAPI, NAB... that I didn't get the others out. I will drop one in the mail tomorrow. I will warn you that the design is probably good, but they are prototypes and a little rough (or in this case they ravel) around the edges.
  19. It was great spending time with you. The size of all the products are dictated by the size of the batteries and connectors. As the battery possibilities get smaller in the future, then ... We can only dream.
  20. Thanks David. We love to hear that and I also look forward to hearing what you think when you have had a chance to use them. Since we have had such a great response, we are a bit backordered, so for those reading this... Thanks for your support!
  21. Hi Phil, The PIP and PAPI are not shipping. We are hoping to have the PIP ship in about 6-7 weeks. The PAPI will probably be August. I am assuming you are talking about the little fabic pouch with Velco that I sent you for the Q? We have had some good feedback on the test pouches. We are open to thoughts on that?
  22. Thanks everyone. To say I enjoyed spending time with all of you at NAB is an understatement. It's like the holidays with friends and family. I look forward to it all year! I am hoping to be able to get away after the PIP and PAPI are out. Then I can visit you guys in your hometowns and you can test the new products. We may even have some newer products to introduce. (You never know...)
  23. Hi Phil, Conrad is a man of many talents. We had such a good time working with him at NAB and came to appreciate his knowledge on so many things (with a great sense of humor to boot). BTW, the PIP size is about 3" x 1.75" x 1" and the PAPI is 3.25" x 1.25" x 1.75". Although they are small, they are very durable. The body is basically one machined piece of aluminum with a top and battery door. The NAB versions had labels but we will have them laser etched for production. These should survive the semi truck test instead of just a truck test. I look forward to getting your opinion on both.
  24. Although this is very late, I wanted take time to thank everyone for their support. For companies who present their products, NAB comes like a whirlwind and then it's done. However I want to say it has become my favorite time of the year. John it was awesome getting to know you at the Ramps party. I have appreciated your wealth of knowledge on JW for years so it was really good to sit and talk with you. Rado it was good seeing you again and hearing your insight. Jose it was great to finally meet you. And thanks to Jeff who took time out to spend with us. What fun it is to share the passion of audio production. Thanks guys
