  1. ***UPDATE!*** After wrestling with the FCC's dreaded applet for about 3-1/2 hours, I finally completed and submitted my application. The cost is $160 now, FYI. Also, I was using Firefox with Java 8 installed on a PC. Super buggy, LOTS of refreshing, logging in and out but at least the application saves where you left off so you can keep plugging away at it. The toughest part was plugging in all the frequencies.. ugh. Good luck friends! (Original post) Anyone else come across this partially loaded applet whilst applying for the license? I've tried everything I can think of with my Java settings and using different browsers, etc. but they always look like this. It's as far as I can get. Thanks for any tips
  2. Ever wonder just what in the world some of these pilots are up to?? Haha http://www.dailydot.com/lol/flightradar24-penis-drawing-florida/?fb=dd
  3. I was sold a fake 416 on Ebay from someone in China (I was a fool, I know.) Unfortunately I didn't find out until after the 45 day reporting period, so I couldn't do anything about it. Be smart and buy your mics from a reputable dealer, don't fall for the "deals" on Ebay, etc. And NEVER buy A microphone from China!!
  4. Hi Eric, Here's a link to the video, which, contains the song of course. The analog 'blip' edit sounds are scattered throughout, usually in between phrases of lyrics or sections of the song!
  5. Experimenting with my reel to reel, trying to recreate some of those tape sounds..
  6. Great job on the shoot and sounded like a fun challenge! It's funny how post guys think we location mixers are "crazy" for what we do. How cool that you can work in both worlds.
  7. Hi all, so lately I've been applying to feature film jobs via email (I even sent an old school fax too!) and including a simple cover letter introducing myself, then my resume with contact info, most recent credits and an equipment list. I haven't received many replies yet. Other than the 'who you know' factor, is there anything else I might be doing to sweeten my applications? Or perhaps am I omitting something important? I'd love to get more replies or phone calls from my applications. Thanks for any help and I'd be happy to email you my typical application as an example. All the best, Kevin.
  8. Have a listen to 'Take me to Church' by Hozier. In addition to the cool retro spring style reverbs and haunting melodic vocals there are several obvious analog tape edit or splice sounds embedded in the mix, and I think they're awesome! Any ideas how these sound are made exactly? I've been searching for an article online about the production of the record to no avail. I just love those little 'blip' tape sounds! I have an old Sony 1/4" reel to reel machine and will be experimenting with it, trying my best to recreate those sounds or maybe come up with others!
  9. Sorry for your loss. I'm doing a shoot in the DFW area next month, I'll keep an eye on equipment for sure.
  10. Excellent video Jeff! Just watched.
  11. Just ordered my first TS-3! Super excited.
  12. An exciting video highlighting sound design for the film Interstellar. http://nofilmschool.com/2014/11/soundworks-collection-interstellar-sound-design
  13. I *just* upgraded my kit after almost two years of using a small mixer and zoom. I learned SO much these past two years and know that I will have to turn down some of my old client and indie level relationships to pursue bigger gigs but it's all part of the growing process. It's time to move forward! This will hopefully an exciting time! You might think you're burning a bridge but it's more like crossing a small bridge for the last time and moving ahead down the road to other, bigger a s better bridges! Good luck, and wish me luck on my new endevors too!
  14. I think I see a boom pole on your back, do you carry that on or check in?
  15. Gotta love quality. Well made *anything* can be tough to find these days.
  16. Great discussions and comments all, wish I still had access to the mixer to check settings but I now think TC *must* have been set to receive mode, not send. I just wasn't familiar enough with the Maxx menu settings to catch this. I will be studying up on this subject so it hopefully never happens again!
  17. I used the same BNC cable to send TC from camera back to the Maxx, so it wasn't the cable. Operator error perhaps? I admit I'm not an expert with Zaxcom stuff and trouble shooting TC!
  18. Hello all, so today I was working with a Maxx, and two Sony F3s needed TC. A ran a 15' BNC cable over and neither camera would accept TC. Called someone for help and all they told me was Maxx is "notorious" for not being able to sync F3s. Work around solution ended up being to generate TC from A cam, slave to B and finally slave to the Maxx. Whatever works I guess. Of course when A can finally needed a battery TC sync was lost and I needed to re-jam. Anyway this was not my equipment, it belonged to client, but I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue with a Maxx or other Zaxcom mixer and if so what might be causing it? Theory: Not enough voltage in the TC signal from Maxx? Thanks for your comments.
  19. Cool, so you traded in something for them? How does the deal work exactly? Thanks!
  20. Anyone see this deal? http://en-us.sennheiser.com/breakup?cvosrc=Social.Owned-Facebook.BUBS&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Owned-Facebook&utm_campaign=BUBS
  21. Just ordered two Q28s today with Trew audio, they are hot sellers!!
  22. Me on Grandfather Mountain, NC shooting the film Mountaintop. We we're uh.. going for some wide shots!
  23. The pistol grip was my best shockmount system, so I used it No sandbag tho! Oops
  24. Vasileios, client specifically asked for wireless lav. And I understand why too. When dealing with VIPs for interviews we need to mic them as quickly and simply and safely as possible, and less cables = less mess, tripping hazard etc. And when you have high quality wireless and are careful in setting up and watching the frequencies as I explained above, theu sound great. Also, there was a rock solid overhead boom mic (MKH50) so post can have their choice in my mix, either mic, % combinations etc. etc. But you are correct in the cost savings, a cheap cable is.. cheap! Ha.
