  1. i've used both zaxcom and the lectro. I love zaxcom because i'm always with a backup recording. Handy also when one batch of actors go with one camera and the other with the other.... although it's only happened once, it saved their ass and they appreciated that. That aside, the backup is great. Another plus coming from lectro is I never scan... almost ever anymore. I found lectro problematic with static and dropouts if I didn't scan at every location. YMMV This is based on Hawaii, Cali, East coast and Australia.
  2. zaxcom is the go, I agree, go the Camera Link as it has an IFB tx inbuilt + wireless link that can be teamed with the QRX or RX200. the RX200 can receive 2 full quality tracks to camera and you could use an ERX for scratch ref and or timecode sync on the second camera. Or eventually have 2 RX200's. Plus they can be doubled as inear monitors for monitoring on set for producers scripties etc... love em.
  3. Thanks, my battery just died a few days ago. TC resets on power cycle, presuming it's that.
  4. Do you find this better than overcovers?, seems like the bubbebee is even more wind resistant and softer? What about horrible scratchy costumes, do you find 4 squares of this around the mic help quiet it down?
  5. I can only speak for what I see in front of me, I can pick the red camera every time. The majority of the best looking films to date shot digitally are shot mostly on Arri... Heres to hoping the "panavision" version of the same sensor, yields a more desireable image. I don't need to test, I have literally hundreds of movies to choose from and compare :-), and have done so many times. Not that I really care much, just a preference. Arri clearly states they keep their photo sensors much larger than their competition as it yields a more cinematic result in their eyes. They haven't changed their sensor technology since it's original release in 2010, they also don't anticipate a change any time soon. Resolution will change, but the actual sensor technology and color science will not. They got it right from day one. Those euros get things right, schoeps, aaton, sennheiser, arri. Somehow I ended up with zaxcom and red, go figure :-) Having said that, I personally purchased a red raven camera and love it. Just a hobby. I don't shoot movies. Sorry I know this is a sound forum, my oppologies, this is just a side hobby of mine, studying film, my day job is purely location sound and post production.
  6. Arri has the best sensor in town IMO :-), smart of them to convince panavision to put it's logo on it. Personally I think theres good reason the arri rules the majority of movies / tv. I'm curious to see if Panavision can get rid of the inherent color problems with the Red.
  7. Yeh sounds like a wiring problem, cancelling out.
  8. You know. Having 2 cables coming out of windows only tablets. Is a major dissapointment. In this day and age everything is wireless to devices. Especially with a back mounted bag which seems to be the direction zaxcom is headed. And no iPad support. Very clunky and to bulky. Not sure this can be fixed. But imo it would be a "fix"
  9. Paging Zaxcom. Paging zaxcom. As a nomad user I'm very jealous and hoping glen will try port this as well. It works much better than Zax auto mix.
  10. hahhahahaha, to good I'd love to do a reverse engineered video and send it to this guy. We chose to cover every shot with the boom as the main audio coverage. Now... for the video, we ended up using an iphone for main camera and we ran a red weapon as backup, but.... in the end, it didn't matter, the iphone was just fine!
  11. yeh, ditto, I just did a short film, her outer layer was synthetic pattern overtop, corset underneath, worst combination i've ever heard. Sounded like sandpaper mixed with creaking floors. Lav was unusable, I don't see what I could have done to fix it?
  12. At 2:30 there is a classic quote... Boom as backup... Lav as primary, no wonder so many indie / b grade productions end up sounding like indie / b grade crap. Because from the ground up, they are given advice that renders them with c grade audio. Anyways, made me mad hearing the advice that so many obviously take far to seriously into their careers.
  13. I'm not sure if they have more gain, but I just crank it to full and this is usually plenty of gain even for quiet ambience like I recorded. Any extra needed is easily added in post. I just wish the MAXX had a couple extra faders like the 633 :-P
  14. I have a Nomad and MAXX, both sound great, very low noise floor, I even recorded some calm ocean here in hawaii with 2 AEA R84 ribbons outside. Sounded fantastic, hardly any noise, Ribbons r worst case scenario noise wise, I can send you a sample of it if you want.
  15. I think with it's circuitry and features, plus being hand made in suiss, I don't neccesarily think it's a rip off, just expensive. I've seen many similar videos, to throw the $22 price tag in that video I think is a little silly.
  16. Probably team said they could cover the PA system. hahahaha, it's just a mic, we got it.
  17. It will be The Circuit board where the lcd panel joins the main board. May be something they allow u to service at home.
  18. Cable wise. Remote audio have been the best bet for crosstalk avoidance with other shared cabling. Zaxcom erx have bad crosstalk when used with certain cables but not with remote audio. Might be worth having them make up a cable
  19. I'll check it out. But these were working. And all of a sudden. Very strange
  20. I was shooting yesterday when the erx feeding the camera suddenly sounded like an 8 bit distorted signal. Like if u took a clean signal and distorted and 8 bitted it. Now today. 3 within 2 hours of each other have done the same thing. I own 6. 2 r still good. Just bad luck? Anyone experience this? Only about 6 months old.
  21. I just updated to the latest firmware. I got a chance to loop output 1 and fed it to an input and its 5db softer then all the other outputs. Resetting between -35 -10 and 0 doesn't help. When set to 0db output it remains -5db softer than the others. I'll give support guys a call in the morning. Was hoping it was a bug of sorts that may have been fixed.
  22. All of a sudden my nomad 12 output 1 will drop about 10db. Anybody had this happen on their nomad? Output level is 0db no attenuation I've had it happen here and there. Sometimes resetting The nomad fixes it. Sometimes it doesn't. Hard to to relicate to test actual level drops. But the record levels and levels from the qrx remain the same. I emailed Howie as well but figured other reports of this could prove handy. Thanks Prahlad.
  23. Shoot over the last week. 2 overseas directors on independent audio feeds and independent telex comms feeds to the two directors. The qu pac Allen heath made this a breeze. Great buy. Took forever to get the routing correct.
