688 headphone jack/amp problem
thenannymoh posted a topic in EquipmentHello all! I'm experiencing a slight problem with my 1/4" headphone jack on my 688, and was looking for any insight anyone might have. I'm getting a very faint, higher pitched buzz (almost a whine). The volume is very low but noticeable when things are quiet. The volume does not change with the headphone gain... it is constant. It is present regardless of any other items connected to the BDS. Here is the odd part: when I plug into the 1/8" jack right beside it, no problems, no buzz. Different headphone produce the same result. The buzz is only present on the 1/4" jack, and not on the recording itself. Any thoughts? Anyone experienced problems with their head oh one amp on the 688? Cheers and stay safe!

Sound Devices 664 sounds better than 688?
Joe Mullins posted a topic in EquipmentI heard there are some folks out there who believe the Sound Devices 664 sounds better than the 688. Does anyone out there share this opinion? I'd love to hear some comments on this and some explanations as to why the 664 might sound "better". [I currently own a 633 and have spent a fair amount of time working with the 688 (which I love). I am planning on purchasing the 688 for the additional channels, ability to use the SL-6, Dugan/MixAssist, and to have EQ control with the CL-12. The 664 would give me only 1/4 of those features.]
Sound Devices SL-6 Limters and WidebandHi Guys, i am looking at adding an SL-6 to my 688. I have an SRC-A1, an SRC-B1 and an SRC-941. I see Sound Devices has updated the 688 firmware to support the SRC-941. I assume the SL-6 would need to be operated in Wideband mode with no filters on. Does anyone have experience with running an SL-6 in Wideband mode? How is the RF performance with all that out of band RF coming in? I know the latest SRCs have pretty good filtering, but would hate to have performance issues like I have had at times with using Wideband Venues with VRTs on multiple blocks without filters. On another note, it seems the analog input limiters will be bypassed on inputs 1-6 when using the SL-6. It is my understanding that the A to D conversion happens in the SL-6 ahead of the 688. I am not quite sure of the signal path. Is there any input overload protection when using the SL-6, or for any other digital inputs, for that matter? My mine product these days is iso tracks. Any postfader compression/limiting is a luxury for me, but input overload protection is what I need. Excellent RF performance, and clean iso tracks, are what is most important to me. As cool as the SL-6 appears to be, I can’t compromise on those things any more than I already have by not using a 788 and 411s. And I don’t want to run the retailer through the return process if my odds of success are low. Any input would be appreciated.
Success with Non Approved Series 6 Media
chris_bollard posted a topic in EquipmentI've been looking at getting 128/256 Gb SD cards to use in my 688 and 633 to use as the back up media. The approved SanDisk 128 appears to be no longer available. Is anyone successfully running larger capacity Non Approved SD cards?
Hey All, I'm looking for a solution to quickly dump a sound report from my 664 to my iPhone so I can email it off quickly at the end of my workdays. Research so far has led me to WiFi enabled SD cards, WiFi SD card readers and Lightning SD card readers. Currently I think my best potential solution is the WiFi enabled SD cards. It is smallest of the solutions. Most cards seem to have their proprietary apps you have to use to transfer files. Some, like the Eye Fi brand, only allow you to transfer photos and video from cameras. Toshiba Flash Air seems to allow all files to be transferred from their SD cards. Documentation on these products, their specs and transferring functions has not been the easiest to find. NOTE: I am well aware that these cards are not approved media- they would be used to quickly transfer a sound report from the CF to the WiFi SD then onto my iPhone. I am not looking to record successfully on said cards. So before I go blow some $$ on something that may not work, I thought I would ask you wonderfully helpful people here at JWSG: Has anyone had experience using this solution or these WiFi cards in a Sound Devices mixer for simply transferring files to their iPhone/mobile device? Does anyone have another solution that they successfully use to get sound reports to their mobile device in the field without lugging around a laptop? Thanks! Todd Steinhauer
688 in Stingray Large - Can I see pics please
Ludovic Lasserre posted a topic in EquipmentHas anyone got a Stingray Large yet, with a 688 (and ideally SL-6) in it? Could you please post one or two pictures? Been spending days trying to source some, contacting both manufacturers and my local resellers, so far no luck...
Apple wireless keyboard + Sound Devices 970 / 6-Series?
Joe Mullins posted a topic in EquipmentHas anyone had any success pairing an Apple Wireless Keyboard with the Sound Devices 970? If so, how did you do it? I'd also love to use it with my 633, but getting it to work with the 970 is the priority for now. Thanks!
