  1. I recently purchased the Mackie 1620i. I plug it into my Mac Mini and when I plug in a mic I can hear a doubling effect on any input I use. How do I stop this. I had not have this happen using my alesis mixer. It's like my audio is looping through the mixer. Also I I push the solo buttons the effect is no longer heard. What do I need to do to correct this issue?
  2. My cart mixer is a Mackie Onyx 1620, which has served me well for a couple of years. Recently, though, I've noticed that a "solo" button and a "mute" button (in two different strips) "stick". Also, there's a 1/4" port that has makes contact intermittently. The mixer is otherwise in good condition and I have no reason to believe there's anything more serious than a lack of cleaning or lubrication. I called "Stretch" at Valley Sound Music Technologies (a Mackie authorized service center) and they pre-charge $75 to take it in, then there'll be somewhere between $150 and $200 for checking, cleaning and lubrication - assuming there's nothing wrong with it. I wonder if there's anything else I can do on my own before I take it there (compressed air, contact cleaner…) and part with $300, seeing as it isn't worth more than $400. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, BK
  3. I have been using Boom Recorder successfully with my MacBook Pro and a Mackie Onyx 1620i mixer, with the Firewire option. I recently upgraded to 8.5.0 and the MacBook Pro is running Yosemite. I have worked with this setup without a problem, until today. We did several setups without incident until, around 10am, I lost timecode and the software aborted the take. Luckily I was able to switch to my backup recorder, but I lost a couple of takes and, more importantly, production had to wait for us. I restarted and did all the pertinent troubleshooting things and it eventually came back, but it's not reliable, and it cuts off eventually. Timecode comes from a Denecke SB3, feeding track 16. During my troubleshooting I noticed that BR sometimes doesn't recognize the Mackie. I wonder whether I'm missing something that would cause this intermittent problem. I'm on set right now, and will be working on this project (national TV commercial) the rest of the day and tomorrow, and am quite baffled. I would love to resolve this and keep working with BR. Any tips you may have, please feel free to text me at eight-one-eight-640-6268 or email me at blaskisic-at-mac-dot-com. Thanks in advance! BK
  4. Hey Guys, I know you all with cringe at the site of this on jwsound, but I'm CURIOUS if anyone has tried out the Zoom R16 as a recorder for low budget film making? (Ether On It's Own or with Boom Recorder?). http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/R16/ I realize it's a plastic piece of cheap recorder but it would have it's uses.
  5. Hi sound people, I have uploaded pictures and information about my current mix cart that I used for the just finished Woody Allen film . Unfortunately the upload did not show up in the gallery section as intended due to an issue with the jwsound site software. You can see the pictures and info here: Email me with comments! 7. So I recently sold my old two channel 722 and my DV Promix (shameful look) and I am making the move into the professional world. I am going to get a a pretty hefty tax return this year and I am debating between two routes for my new recording rig. I currently have an MKH-50 and a few good wireless channels, with Cos-11s. I am debating between moving to a cart rig or the Zaxcom Nomad. I already own a new MBP, and Pro-Tools 9 with a Digi 003. So boom recorder and a mixer makes me a great timecode recorder, but I like the Zaxcom Nomad argh please help me decide! Rig #1 $4,700 Yamaha 01v96i w/ Meon life and BoomRecorderPro and Pro-Tools and an SKB 10x6 Rotorack +16 channels of record +Unlimited routing +Sync Playback through pro-tools +Rack Based makes expansion easy -Computer Based -Big Heavy, will not work for one man show. Rig #2 $5500 Zaxcom Nomad 4 Channel, BDS v4 +TimeCode Included +Zaxcom Brand/reliability +Bag based is portable and Versatile +12 channels/ZaxNet/ IFB/ Remote Control with later upgrade -Bag-based work not my favorite. -No playback ability -Will eventually end up on cart Recorder Options.pdf
