  1. This is a photo diary of the birth of my new sound cart. It is based on wooden 8U 19" cases (bought from Thomann) and will have the option of adding more modules. It breaks into single modules for transport in a car. The base will, apart from having wheels, hold things like comtek RX, small playback speakers, spare headphones, and similar stuff you typically need handy only during set-up. It will also contain small mic stands, LPDAs, and a spare Rycote basket. The main module will hold two drawers with TX, lavs, lav accessories, mics, suspensions, TX batteries and so on, and have 4 units of open space to house RX racks, script, comtek TX, headphones, and similar stuff. The recorder will either sit in this compartment as well, or in a bag on top - depending on the kind of job. In the back will be the power compartment with a power supply for 230V external power and a battery compartment (17Ah lead battery and/or 5.2Ah NP). This module can also be taken on a driving car shoot if necessary (though I prefer having only a bag for that kind of shoot). The modules will connect with bolts (Obi - German equivalent of Home Depot). The front door of the main module can be bolted on top and hold the bag, antenna mounts, and a screen. On the sides will be two boom holders and handles. Here are the parcels from Thomann:
  2. Hey everyone, Anyone using Nanuk cases? Looks like a great alternative to Pelican. Do you have the foam inserts or padded dividers? cheers
  3. Not sure if there's a thread on JW already, but I bought some Zaxcom wireless on here recently and he sent me a really great case for my TRX900LAs. I figured I'd share these great cases with anyone who may be looking for a good alternate, if they lost their clip, or are searching for one as a replacement. Not to mention, it protects it as well! It fits flawlessly and doesn't get in the way of anything. You'd have to take the TRX out to change certain settings though; but who needs to do that when you have ZaxNet though, right? http://www.niteize.com/product/Executive-Series-Leather-Holster-Tall.asp Here are some photos of the case and how it fits. Enjoy! - Sessoms Here's the TRX by itself - This is the case with clip visible. Case open (Magnetic) TRX in the case. Very snug fit and doesn't get in the way of the mic input or antenna.
  4. Hi everyone, I find myself keep changing the way I store my lavs in my pelican and can't find the perfect way to store them. Fast access, durable, space conscious.... If some of you feel like you have a satisfying solution, would you please share with me or perhaps upload a photo of your box, case, store space, etc... ? Thank you in advance guys/girls! Engin
  5. Does anyone have a definitive answer for whether or not to connect the cable 'Shield' to the connector 'Case' Standard wiring for 'Balanced' Input/Output 3 Pin XLR is: Pin 1 Shield Pin 2 + Pin 3 - But should you jumper Pin 1 'Shield' to the connector 'Case' It seems that every time I ask someone I get a different answer ranging from "Absolutely yes" to "Definitely not" and even "Yes for location audio but no for studio audio" or "Only at one end" or "No way because that 'Case' lug is for attaching the string in the cable to provide strain relief". Comments from the crowd
  6. Not sure how many of you know about these already, but I thought I'd post about it anyway with some pics for those that do not as I think this is a very good solution for any that have been looking. I bought a Sennheiser MKH-416 last year and like many of us newbies dabbling in the DSLR video and audio world I started with the Rode NTG-3 as a first shotgun mic. When I decided to upgrade to the 416 and sold the NTG-3 I was sad to see the storage case that the Rode came with go. For those that dont know the Rode NTG-3 comes with a very nice aluminum, pipe bomb looking, rubber gasket sealed storage case. There is nice squishy black foam inside the barrel and in the end caps as well. And since the NTG-3 and MKH-416 are nearly identical in every way, the 416 happens to fit in the NTG-3's storage tube. So I began looking around to see where I could get just the storage tube alone. Turned out no one sold it by itself and most places I talked to didnt even know what I was talking about. Eventually I found myself contacting Rode at 1-925-548-9451 and learned that the case is called a Baton in Australia and a Storage Cylinder here in the states by Rode's customer service people and that the part number is: 310-001-1-2. After talking to a Rode rep here in the states, he was nice enough to just give me a storage cylinder for free! I didnt even have to pay shipping. While I cant guarantee they will do that for anyone that calls, I at least wanted to make those that werent aware something like this existed and will be MUCH less expensive and IMO better than cases made by say ALFA (LINK) or any others. And I figured even if Rode wanted to sell you one I doubt they would charge much. Anyway, hope this info is of some use to someone. Just trying to give back a little.
