Hey all! I bought a 16’ Loon boompole about a year ago, and while it’s been an excellent piece of gear for me, I’m getting a little worried about the kind of care its former owner was giving it. The carbon fiber is very matte and feels very dry (though I don’t see any cracking). I clean it fairly regularly (after every 7-8 days on set, or after shooting in the rain/dust) and use Boomshine after every few cleans. Is there anything I can do or should be doing to try and extend the life of this great pole? Any specific products you carbon fiber users like to use? I’ve started to use my beater aluminum pole on a stand instead clamping the carbon fiber to save it the stress of the clamp.

Just curious. I wanted to know for any of you out there, is an aluminum pole really that bad compared to a carbon fiber pole? In my career I've only used carbon fiber because of the stigmatism of the heavy aluminum pole. I'm looking to buy a longer second pole and I am under a bit of a budget. I've seen some good products on eBay but I am skeptical of getting an aluminum pole (These are going for a cheaper price and I'm betting it's because they are less in demand.). I just wanted to know if this would be a huge mistake to even consider or is it just merely preference? I use right now a K-Tek KEG-88CC Avalon Series "Traveler. I'm upgrading my gear and would like to have a longer pole, just in case I get into that type of situation. It won't be a most of the jobs I do (ENG, "run and gun"). My currently pole goes from 1'11"-7'4". Your thought? Thanks
