  1. It's an ill wind that blows no good. LEF .
  2. Hey everyone! I’ve been a big fan of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones for my monitoring on Location for quite a while but I’ve just noticed that Sennheiser has semi-recently released their HD 300 series with their “PROtect” active reduction technology when levels go over 110dB. My first thought is that this is probably a gimmick and not the best idea but I wanted to check to see if anyone has tested them out at all. Cheers! https://en-us.sennheiser.com/hd-300-protect
  3. I know Ultrasone headphones have been popular with location mixers in the past. Has anyone tried out the ADAM Audio SP-5 headphones https://www.adam-audio.com/en/news/industry/new-premium-headphone-adam-audio-studio-pro-sp-5/ on location and what is your feedback?
  4. New headphones from Focal. It is a replacement of Focal Spirit Professional. 32 ohm impedance 122 dB SPL @ 1 kHz / 1 Vrms 5 Hz - 22 kHz 10 oz (280g) Two cables: 16ft (5m) coiled cable & 4.5ft (1.4m) straight cable with omni directional microphone https://www.focal.com/en/pro-audio/monitoring-speakers/professional-headphones/listen-professional
  5. I'm struggling to find a reliable pair of ear bud style headphones for monitoring on the job and wondering if you have any recommendations? I prefer using headphones ( Sony MDR 7506) but I'm looking for pair of ear buds that I can use in situations where I have to wear headgear like a helmet or fur hat in extremely cold conditions that makes using over the ear headphones not fit. I've tried the SHURE SE215 but am not a fan of the around the ear bud style of wearing them and found them too be way too isolating for shooting in the field. (can't hear directions and need to be aware of any hazards in doc style shooting) So if you have any recommendations for ear buds that are reliable, comfortable and not too isolating i would love to hear them, hoping to spend between $100-$300 Cheers,
  6. There has been a new generation of HD-25 headphones out since the early months of 2016. - Has anyone been using them so far? - Does the problem of intermittent connection loss (cable to earcup) still persist with the new generation? From the pics the connection to the earcups has not been changed, but one could maybe think they they've been clever enough to improve the female part of the plugs inside the earcups... The new generation is named only "HD-25" without any suffix, there is a "plus" edition with the same headphones but a coiled cable and velour pads added. see this old thread:
  7. Any user opinions? Tascam TH O2 Headphones https://www.google.com/search?q=Tascam+TH-02B+&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 http://tascam.com/product/th-02/specifications/
  8. Hi everyone, begining of this year i planned to buy a beyer dynamic dt770 80ohm, bt then recently i went to the shop and they out of stock. Do u guys have any headphones to suggest? Which quality is quite ok like dt770 does.. *im doing sound in production ur reply will be appeciated!
  9. Hi does anyone know any RF headphones which can cut it for critical listening, or are they all too compressed to use? I was looking at the Sennheiser RS165, which are closed back. I wanted something for artists to use tracking vocals in a studio, so they need to be zero latency, but also to use for general mixing. Are there any RF or equivalent wireless headphones anyone knows of that are decent enough quality?

Hey guys! I need your advice please, I'm looking for a new headphones. The Sony 7506 are strong but sounds "so so", the Sennheiser HD25 is much better but I know, sooner or later, I will have the "famous disconnections". Which one do you use? Any other brand is welcome.

  12. I'm going to be working on an indie in Death Valley in April. I sunburn quickly (Irish skin) and will be mixing in-the-bag for a good numer of wandering-in-the-desert scenes (otherwise, I'll be at the cart, under an umbrella). I have a wide-brimmed hat I'd like to wear to keep the sun off my neck and face when I'm in-the-bag, but the hat doesn't fit over my headphones. I currently own a pair of Sony MDRs and Sennheiser 280s. I was looking at the Sennheiser PMX 90s, but don't know about the sound quality of those for mixing. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/751876-REG/Sennheiser_PMX90_PMX_90_On_Ear_Behind_the_Neck.html Are those any good? Are there any good quality behind-the-neck (or over-the ear) headphones you'd recommend? (particularly for use in sometimes gusty desert conditions)
  13. Hello again, everyone. I'm writing you in a last attempt to decide upon a method of monitoring for my new rig I am putting together. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated because I honestly have been a pampered studio rat almost my entire career and I'm now being thrown into the deep-end of live audio.. I record award shows which sometimes have musical entertainment. Mostly it's podium, but sometimes there can be up to 24 tracks of misc. audio tracks I need to record. My basic rig I am putting together is a few 192 I/Os, Sync I/O, thunderbolt/PCIe converter into a laptop. As a backup, I am purchasing a JoeCo blackbox recorder. I have worked out my rack to be about 16 RU high, and now I need a good monitoring system that utilizes only 1 headphone plug - i.e. I don't want to go plugging my headphones around in the back of the rack to monitor the main recording as opposed to the backup, and I'd also like to possibly have a pre-Pro Tools feed as well to A-B the recording with. I am looking for an extremely compact headphone monitoring system where I can plug in many sources and monitor them easily by switching a turn-dial or something similar. Ideally it would be 1 RU... Have any of you had a similar problem to mine? How did you go about solving it?
  14. I'm going in a month to film in Qatar and i know it will be very hot. For the past 8 years i have been recording/mixing with my Beyer DT48. I love this headphones and i love their very flat and 'real' reproduction. Also their noise isolation. But they are heavy and most importantly, very hot! The pads are made of leather like material, so they are not ideal for Qatar. I just wanted to hear what people use around and if anyone has any recommendation (or mods for keeping the DT48 cool). Price wise similar to the DT48's as i want good headphones. Thanks everyone in advance Diego
  15. Warning, possible newb content: My first post here! I am in the market for some headphones. I am just getting into doing some boom work. I am primarily considering the Ultrasone Pro550s. These are excellent sounding and very comfortable. They come with extras and a case. I'll definitely go with these over something like the 7506's. My question is whether it would be beneficial to have open-back phones so I can hear the director etc. more easily or if its best to isolate my ears and focus on what the mic is hearing? If closed is the concensus then does anyone use high quality in-ears to avoid the sweat of a hot shoot?
  16. Has anyone tried these? http://bit.ly/xejIP5 i ask out of pure curiosity, mac
  17. In in the "What to look for in headphones?" thread, imagist notes the same problem I am having with the HD 25 II, and the same that Simon B experienced with HD250 II. -The point of connection between the cable and earcup becoming intermittent- As well as the seemingly random loses of signal, it is also guaranteed to lose signal when a loud transient is received (eg a clapper board, a shout). I feed my cans lower volume than anyone I know. It is always the left earcup and it is fixed by applying small pressure to the connector in a forwards direction. I otherwise love my HD25s and was ready to buy a spare pair when this started some moths back. Imagist mentioned that tinning the connectors seemed to give another couple months before intermittent behaviour, but I would love to find a more permanent solution. Has anyone found anything to help? Thanks
