Hi there, Zaxcom has been announce a new transmitter, TRXLA5 - an upgraded version from TRXLA3. Include all the bell and whistles such as NeverClip, internal recording, ZaxNet, ZaxNet QC, Powerroll etc. Most notable is the support of 5 Volt microphones and MHz Bands. US: 512.0 - 607.9 (100mW), 614.1 - 615.9 (20mW), 653.1 - 662.9 (20mW) Global: 512.0 - 698.0 More specifications can be found here.
  2. Hello gang, These are the batteries I will be using to power the Zaxcom Nova with MRX414 receivers. The tall purplish one will be the "main' battery, and is rated at 5000mah and thanks to the extreme efficiency of the Nova and the MRX414 receivers, 4 of these will power the Nova and all 8 receivers and Zaxnet for a minimum of 3 hours 45 minutes. That pack will weigh about 12 oz. (340 grams). The AA energizer is there for size reference. The small battery will be my "backup" battery that will be plugged into the other Hirose 4 pin port on Nova. They are rated @ 1100mah. 4 of those batteries will run Nova with 8 receivers and Zaxnet for a minimum of 35 minutes and weigh about 6 oz. (170 grams). That is really an impressive number to me. Did I leave anything out? I usually do. Martin
  3. Hi I've noticed that when I mark the same take twice, the mirror folder only shows one. For example, I roll on S1T1 and mark it. And then I roll S1T1 again and mark it again. When I do that, it only shows one S1T1X in the mirror folder. There should obviously be 2 marked takes in the folder. In fact the primary folder shows 2 marked takes. Has anyone encountered this issue? And how did you solve it?
  4. We’ve kept busy expanding the line of belt clips to the LRXLA and TRXLT. It’s a clip that will STAY in place and not fall from pants or belt thanks to his BIG clip with a stopper. Always made with PRO-PLA that is super strong, rounded corners, soft to the touch comfortable to wear for talent. The transmitters can also be slid in upside down in the clip. The exceeding cable can also be looped around the clip. ✌️🛠🎛 available at locationsoundtools.com
  5. Hello sound hive, i m dominique greffard, a sound mixer based in montreal canada. I have recently got a zaxcom nova and a couple of zmt transmitters that i really like. a few times a year i get asked to provide production with a wireless stickmic and i can t justify buying a dedicated xlr transmitter for those rare instances. i decided to come up with an adaptor to allow a zmt transmitter to work with the sennheiser md-46, shure sm58 and the electro-voice re-50. i am now selling those with the xlr-f to lemo adaptor for 110$ Usd paypal. I would really like to know what you think about the product. I understand that bending the antenna around creates a rf compromise but after some testing it works fine for those close range applications. i can be reached at dominiquegreffard@gmail.com thanks, dominique holder.mp4
  6. Hello,I have started to have some issues over the last few weeks with the files being converted off of some of my ZMT3 recorders. but it is intermittent. In a day on a card in the ZMT3, there may be say 7 or 8 files of audio created, which get converted and brought into the avid timeline and synced. I have had a few shoots where certain cast members files, files 4-7 are the only ones ZAXconvert will convert. And when I ask Zaxconvert to do files 1-3 it says "file too small to convert". I checked and the ZMT3's were definitely recording at the time, they were, and this is leading to us losing several hours of each cast member's audio.ZAXconvert and the ZMT3's are on the latest firmware I believe.Has anybody else had this problem and can anybody help? Thanks in advance.Sarah
  7. Hey folks! I'm trying to figure out the best Zaxnet antenna for my Nomad. Seeking the best compromise between (1) decent signal range (2) unobtrusive form factor in the bag and (3) minimal stress on the Nomad's antenna mount. I've been using an antenna that's ~4 inches sticking straight up (pictured), but have had some issues with my bag and harness putting pressure on it, causing the mount to loosen. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
  8. In search of a wiring diagram for the Oasis XLRM 4 pin power jack. Also looking for thread size for the mounting holes on the side of the Oasis unit. Thanks, Vincent
  9. Hello to all of you @JWSOUND It's good to finally be here. I have a question regarding Zaxcom Maxx recorder issue. I've already contacted Zaxcom and Ambient regarding the issue and the good people from Ambient told me that i can send Maxx for service/repair but i should also ask the question here as the nature of issues I'm going through is really weird. Never explained issue to Zaxcom, just asked about the possibility of service in Europe. I'll try to describe the issue the best i can. The other day i ran out of batteries (hawk woods np50) during recording session. At the moment i wasn't close to the recorder but when i came back, red battery symbol was flashing, channel selection and level values were 'jumping' from low to high randomly from 2 -3 -4 channel. At the same time channel 1 was stuck on +17dB (checked value in setup) and only allowing value ie level to be increased. At the same time rotating knob clock wise and adding gain resulted in adding Voltage percentage on battery indicator icon. So at some point it went from 12.5 V and 'low battery warning' to 19 or 20V icon value. All the time ch levels and led indicators were running mad. Very strange indeed. Those are new Hawk Woods batteries, used, tried and tested. I borrowed few ext bat from a colleague and also tried AA power option. Same thing, just numbers were different. I was in post fader mode. When in pre fade mode i can trim up and down gain altho channels are still randomly switched, and voltage indicator is running wild. I have tried to re-instal firmware few times, to reset the machine, stop button pressing when powering up..everything. No success. Havent tried the inputs after this episode because i didn't want to risk possible phantom issues with microphones, but in headphones when turned up, 3rd channel has noise level that is higher than noise level on 1st,2nd and 4th ch. Any info or input on the matter would be highly appreciated. Thank you. Nikola maxx2.3gp maxx3.3gp
  10. Having worked out how to extract the Deva II files from the DVD-RAM using a modern PC, and having had the phantom power supply on mic input 4 fixed, I now have the four track up and running. Tests on the phantom power voltage reveal a strange issue that I'm hoping someone can chime in on. With the 12v external supply connected, we have around 55v dc phantom power at the inputs. This is obviously slightly over spec for most mics. I then tested with a full li-ion NP1 and was disturbed to get a reading of 72v at the inputs! This drops off progressively as the battery drains. Testing with a variable PSU seems to indicate that 10.5 to 11v give closest to 48v at the inputs. I have tested the unit with inexpensive mics which seem to have taken no evident harm; I wouldn't want to be plugging in anything by Schoeps or Sennheiser though! With phantom power needing to be constant, I'm guessing there must be an issue with the power supply in the unit that the tech didn't address (I've gone back to him about this), but was wondering if anyone here might be able to offer some insight. If it is another fault, it may be a case of just using the unit with a linear PSU of 10.5-11v (if I can find one), because there is no point sinking any extra cash in I feel. Could it also be that the unit was designed to work with NiCad instead of li-ion?
  11. I'm getting ready to buy my first Zaxcom wireless units, and can't seem to quite get my head around all of the options. I use a Nomad 10 for my mixer, so I have Zaxnet control from there. Is there any advantage to getting a QRX235 with the QIFB if I'm already using a Nomad or should I be looking more at the QRX200? Does having the QIFB option allow for auto scanning and assigning channels like the RX-12 will when connected to a Nomad, or is it just for manual remote control?
  12. I recently got a Zaxcom Deva ii for free, and although it is old, I love the sound, functionality, and form factor and want to use it for multi channel location music recordings, and for sound on small scale documentary shoots. It came with the DVD-RAM recorder. The problem I have is I can't work out how to access the files on my PC. I first tried removing the internal hard disk and plugging in to my Windows 10 computer via an IDE to USB interface. Result; no files to be seen. Next, I bought some DVD-RAM discs and tried mirroring the HDD; this has worked as the files play back on the unit from the external disk, and by visual inspection, the tracks are obviously there on the disk. Thinking I'd solved the problem and would find my lovely BWF files waiting, I put the the disk into my DVD multi drive, only to find that again, there were no files on the disk, and the file system showing as RAW. I've tried formatting various ways, but each time the Deva wants me to erase the disk before it allows mirroring. Lastly, I installed XP on my PC to see if the OS was the problem. Again, no files to be seen. I tried formatting to fat32, at which point it can be seen that there is a percentage of the disc used, but no files to be accessed. I have an old DVD RAM drive on the way to test, and am going to try Windows 98 later, but feel I'm clutching at straws! Is there some kind of special software I need to access the files? Any assistance those experienced folk on here who have used the machine could give would be extremely gratefully received!
  13. I might have a good deal on a qrx100. I’ve read the manuals and researched them both a bit and the technical differences, but I’d like to hear from people who have used both. I would be using it with my 742 and zmt phantom. Not interested in using it as a camera RX. Just for use with 1 or 2 boom/talent TX. I am also not sure I need a wideband receiver as I only really use it in one block. Is there any reason I should consider one of the newer RX?
  14. We have received questions from sound mixers regarding whether or not infringement of our "Recording Transmitter" patents can be avoided by not recording while set to standardized LAV bias voltages or not wearing a recording transmitter and/or not using the transmitter with a lavalier microphone. After conferring with our intellectual property counsel, the answer is no. Our counsel informs us that none of our patent claims specifically require a “lavalier microphone" or "unbalanced input” and/or that the transmitter be “worn.” Although some of the patent claims require the transmitter to have an “audio input device” or to be “wearable,” other patent claims have no such requirements. The invention of the recording transmitter and the process of replacing dropouts with time code referenced files recorded in the transmitter is clearly a desirable and unique feature. Zaxcom innovates at great cost and has advanced the state of the art. We take great pride in these inventions and what they can do for our customers every day. The patent system protects our intellectual property and allows us to profit and recover our technological investment in creating the inventions on which we have spent substantial time in order to bring them to our customer base. We thank all customers who respect our right to earn an income from our inventions and protect our intellectual property from any company that seeks to exploit our technology without permission or compensation. Should anyone have further questions, please feel free to contact us for clarification.
  15. Hey everybody! First-time poster here. I'm having some trouble getting rec-run timecode to trigger internal recording in my ZMT3 transmitters. I had believed the important ZMT3 menu setting was this one: Extended Menu > Timecode Menu > TC Jam Mode > Auto-Load Rec Run My ZMT3 transmitters are all set to the same Zaxnet frequency, in the "RX" Zaxnet mode. They are correctly displaying TC that is being sent by an IFB200, but starting / stopping the TC doesn't start / stop the recording. The IFB200 is receiving timecode via BNC from a Canon C300 Mark II camera. I have the camera set to rec-run mode, so the TC only rolls when I hit record on the camera; otherwise the TC remains frozen. I have also put the IFB200 into "Transmit TP Mode," meaning that if the IFB200 is recording, then it sends a record command to the ZMT3's. This currently is working. I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks so much in advance!
  16. Here is an interesting use of our new hand held. The hand held was hard wired to the PA speakers. No external equipment was needed to feed wireless transmitters as the transmitter is inside the handheld itself. The handheld also provided a backup recording of the event. This allowed a seamless recording of all vocals and instruments with a Deva5.8 and a RX12 in a sound bag as well as a virtual multitrack recording contained in every transmitter synced with Zaxnet time code. The Subway players appeared more realistic without the extra gear that would be needed without the Zaxcom transmitting and cabled handheld. TRX743s were used as plant mics mounted to the ceiling. See if you can spot someone you know in the crowd.
  17. Hi all, Anyone have experience on whether the stereo recording using the STA 150 on the ZFR 100 will produce inferior recordings in comparison with a mono recording through the audio input? The bonus question is whether anyone has found out whether running an external DAC into the STA 042 results in any transcoding degradation in ZFR100 recording? Many thanks Richard
  18. Hello All, I'm curious what everybody's getting on ZMT3 battery life. Either real world or testing. What battery are you using, how long is it running your ZMT and what power level setting are you using? Thank you, Martin
  19. Some time around the September of last year, I was approached by someone on Facebook to work on there feature doing sound. So I asked the potential client what was his budget, he responded $10,000 US. So I had the brilliant idea of charging him the cost of my current audio recorder the Zoom F8 in exchange for my services. Having mentioned money, he immediately went on to saying that this was a shoe string budget and that no one from the crew was getting paid. After respectfully declining, I decided to sell my one and only audio recorder which was the Zoom H4N, and bought my F8 on credit, which I'm still paying to this day. I wanted know if anyone on this platform has ever received equipment as payment from their clients, in exchange for ones services. If so, what would be the best way to go about this method? Thanks!
  20. I searched the site but couldn't find it. How do you calibrate the battery on the TRX743? Thanks.
  21. I've owned and used Lectrosonics R1a receivers in years past and currently own and use Comtek PR-216 receivers, but its time for a change in that the Comteks just aren't performing as reliably as needed. The signal needs to be consistently clean and clear as the client's opinion of my work is influenced by what they hear over IFB. R1a receivers are rock solid and sound fine, but I want to get away from using 9v with a battery life of 8 hours per alkaline. The several days a Comtek will go between battery changes is exceptional, but the 10mw M-216 Option P7 transmitter and plastic case on the receivers have been weak points. So I'm considering Zaxcom for IFB because it's the other option I don’t have experience with, and maybe I've been missing out all this time? What's your experience with an IFB200 to ERX3TCD? In particular, is the range reliably up to 100’ with Zaxnet using 2.4Ghz? Seems like there are so many devices using 2.4Ghz with everyone having a smart phone etc etc that interference could be an issue.
  22. Hi Guys. I have the recommended Lemo FVB.00.303.NLA connector and need to make up an XLR (F) line level cable for my Zaxcom TRXLA3. Besides patience, anyone got some words of wisdom on how to do this. I'm assuming both resistors will be wired in the XLR as the lemo is too tiny. Also, how do you attach the screen to the Lemo connector body? Many thanks, Sebastian
  23. Hi guys, hope you're all well. Has anyone had any luck powering a Zaxcom QRX100 from batteries? I made a battery cable - 2x9v batteries termination in the QRX DC plug. Works for about 20 minutes then doesn't work. I can't work out if the power is being drained from the 9Vs too quickly, or if it's a different problem. Would appreciate any insight - or product links that I could buy to make this work. Many thanks
  24. I wanted to post a link to this video. It was recorded with 30 Zaxcom recording transmitters and ZFR recorders. Each track was synced via Zaxnet and was verified with wireless QC. Each transmitter/recorder was switched on and the show began. All tracks were taken from the transmitter/recorders recorded cards and combined in protools.
  25. Litigation is once again the topic of the day. I see from https://search.rpxcorp.com/litigation_documents/12428564 that Zaxcom has decided to sue Lectrosonics over the PDR unit claiming infringement of their U.S. Patent No. 7,929,902, 8,385,814 & 9,336,307 all entitled “VIRTUAL WIRELESS MULTITRACK RECORDING SYSTEM.” Members here I imagine will likely naturally take one side or the other. Personally, I am a former Zaxcom and current Lectrosonics and Wisycom user. I am a supporter of patents as they offer much needed protection to innovators and inventors when used in the correct manner. However, my own view (which I am aware others will disagree with but we are in a democracy with freedom of speech so lets keep things civil) is that this patent is far too broad and should never have been issued in its current form as it is stifling the industry and advances in radiomic technology. Like many, I see recordable transmitters as a natural evolution of the humble radiomic and would like to see other manufacturers (I know Audio Ltd already have a working system available outside of North America) adding features such as this to their equipment ranges. I was hoping that following the launch of Superslot the industry had seen the light and would work towards a greater open-standards (or at worse cross-license patents for the benefit of the end user). This clearly shows those days are not yet here. This topic last came up with Zaxcom sued Tascam over the launch of their DR10's. Tascam withdrew their product from North America rather than enter a lengthy and costly legal battle (who knows what Lectrosonics will decide but my guess is that they took legal council prior to launching the PDR) so to my knowledge this patent has never been tested in an actual court. Questions for the group are: 1.) Would you like to see Zaxcom, Lectrosonics, Wisycom, Audio Ltd create an open standard or cross license their technologies for the benefit of end users? 2.) Does anyone know if Zaxcom offer a license for their patents (Recordable transmitter)? If not, why not? 3.) Does anyone know if Lectrosonics offer a license for their patents (Digital Hybrid)? If not, why not? Finally, let us have a sensible discussion about this and the wider topic of open standards and NOT drag this thread down with inappropriate language or insults please!!
