  1. Hey Sound Geeks, I'm unsure about the TRXLA2's power roll set up as I'm getting some readings on the screen that seem weird and aren't explained in the manual. I could do with some advise please. I thought the settings to use power roll from 25mw to 125mw should be: TX POWER set to 25MW and POWER ROLL set to record trigger. This would then boost the power to full from the dormant power setting (25mw) However, when power roll is set to on the TX POWER screen shows (50MW) underneath where the power setting shows 25MW. what does the power in brackets mean? Also, with the above settings, when i go into the power roll screen (which is set to record trigger) it momentarily flashes up with a '50MW'. what does this mean? is that the power it's kicking up to when record is engaged? The other way someone suggested it could work is to select full power in the power screen and turn power roll on. Enabling the power roll would reduce the power from 125mw to 25mw when not recording. Which way round is it? What settings are you guys using?...Glenn?!...Help!! Many thanks
  2. Hey everyone, I'm curious to see if anyone is using the new Master Lockit to feed continuous jam to the Nomad in the sound bag, and whether or not the Master Lockit's own 2.4ghz transmission to other ACN lockits onset are causing interference with various zaxnet commands, given that they'd be physically so close together in the bag? Cheers! Eren
  3. Having an 'old' set in my bag, soon to be unusable over here, what would be the price to reblock my set?
  4. Hey guys, I could've sworn I'd once seen a picture in the 'show me your bag' section of a Nomad with Sound Devices faders (552,664), but can't seem to find it anymore. Has anyone seen this type of setup? I just purchased a Nomad (yay!) but discovered afterwards that I didn't love the feel of Nomad's faders.. So here we are! Is it as simple as unscrewing Nomad's faders and replacing them with SD? I suppose I don't know the diameter of what's controlling underneath and whether or not they're compatible. All ideas are welcome! Cheers. Pinkywinkle
  5. Hey all, im about to enter the world of Zaxcom, switching over from Sound Devices. I've been using a 788 with CLWIFI in a bag for pretty much any job. What I loved about this was entering notes in from my iPhone using the CLWIFI app and subsequently being able to send off my PDF sound report at the end of the day with all track naming, Timecode and note metadata embedded. As I understand, there's nothing quite like that for the nomad at present. With Nomad touch it seems you can do something similar, but CSV instead of PDF and using a windows tablet instead of our iPhones. The last thread I could find on this topic on JW was dated back to 2013, so I thought to ask if there's been any developments not documented on this forum. Further to this, and while it could be a new thread altogether I feel it's still relevant: do any Zaxcom users on here play with Timecode Buddy hardware and Movie slate app for notes? I've been impressed by what the new TCB Wave product can do, but it seems the data port only plays with SD mixer / recorders, like the CLWIFI. No mention of Nomad. Thanks in advance! cheers, pinky
  6. Hey guys, Avid reader and new to the production sound scene. I've doing location sound for about a year now with good success doing corporate, 2 features and a bunch of shorts. Upgraded to my first nice indoor mic (neumann km150). So here's the deal: got my first gig that's got me pretty nervous. I've been asked to do sound for an interview with Martin Scorcese. My first thought was that I have to upgrade to a sound devices and some lectros or zaxcom lavs along with my indoor boom. I've been getting by with a tascam 680 and sennheiser g3's with a cos-11 mic. I know it's prosumer and I"m saving up for the next round of upgrades (I can rent too) but just not there yet. I'm confident that I can deliver clean, balanced tracks using my gear to it's full potential. What I'm kinda scared of is showing up on set with my gear and getting looks from Scorcese and the production crew like, 'who invited this guy?' Am I right to be nervous about my gear or is this a case of 'it's not the arrows but the archer'. Your thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated.
  7. Hi there, Dimitri here, I own a Maxx and I am debating buying a nomad after selling my 788T. I like zaxcom products and I am very interested in the nomad. However I am not a fan of how unsterdy they feel, especially the power on switch and the cf mirror card on the nomad. Anybody knows if zaxcom will come out with a new Nomad soon? Thanks
  8. I just got an email from Zaxcom about the new ERX firmware v2.0 - http://zaxcom.com/software_update/erx-v2-0/ This is yet another awesome free update from Zaxcom. Thanks for listening so carefully to your users! Mark O.
  9. Hi everyone, Thank you in advance for any help on the topic. I've been an all zaxcom user for a few years now and have never ran into any problems before. I am currently supervising a show and using the erx2s on a Sony f55 for refrence and tc. In the past, I've never, ever had tc issues. Now, I have been experiencing a drift, even when my Nomad is within six inches of the erx. The DIT, AC and I verified the drift was one second slower on both erxs when I am right next to it, (the erx, not the camera display). When I power cycled the erx, it pick up my tc immediately which men's it is transmitting from my nomad and recieving into the erx. I just sent my nomad in to zaxcom to be updated for use with the fp8, and am on MR57. This is the only difference in my package since my last 50 flawless gigs. If any one has had this issue or can help shed some light, I'd love to correct this. Thanks again, Audio Aaron
  10. Hi all, I have been asked to do sound on a 5D shoot. - Mk2 or Mk3 (TBD). - Sometimes a pair of 5Ds. - It is documentary. - We will shoot in Armenia. - No post house on board yet. - Editor not yet confirmed. - Likely to stay like that until we return from Armenia. - First production meeting Saturday. I have some obvious concerns about sync. - I have only one Lockit. - My pair of Tentacle Sync boxes might not arrive by then. So plan is: ERX on each 5D; - 5D Left track - scratch mix (for PluralEyes) - 5D Right track - TC (for AuxTC Reader) For the interviews this seems fine (they will be boarded) For the event coverage (marches, concert etc) where cams will cut & roll at will, I plan to roll a continuous take on Nomad, as much as possible. I’ve downloaded trial versions of both programs to test the workflow, when I get my hands on a camera. Questions: - Could long audio and/or video takes cause problems with this sync set up? - What is the appropriate way to pad down the TC for 5Ds mic level input? - Any suggestions for improvements to this (provisional) system? - Anyone done this before care to share their findings? Many Thanks, B
  11. I've observed this forum for years and used it as a resource to guide me through gear, technique, business practices, etc. Since this is my first post, I just wanted to say that I am humbled and grateful to everyone for sharing your knowledge. The discussions, arguments, and even outright verbal fist fights have been valuable to guiding me to the answers to my questions. I've scoured the forum, but haven't found anything for a particular problem I've been having. I bought 2 ERX2tcd units a few months ago (receiving ifb signal from a qrx235) and immediately noticed a frequent glitching sound in the audio. Sent the all of the units back to Zaxcom (including the 235) to get checked out, but when I got them back, there didn't seem to be any improvement. So… I took everything over to Trew in Nashville, where I purchased them, and we set up a few test scenarios mixing my units, one of their nomads as transmitter and a couple of their ERX's. Every test had the glitches. I had a conversation with Howie, and he explained how the system worked and why I might be hearing what I was hearing. He also offered to take another look at the system. However, before I take him up on the offer, I just want to make sure my expectations are reasonable compared to what other users are experiencing. To the ERX users out there, Is your audio clean? Do you have any glitches, if so, how frequent? The linked video illustrates what I'm hearing... https://jimmyjernigan.com/zax/ERXGlitch.m4v
  12. I was charged over $17 in shipping for a package that weighs 12 grams! Thanks so much.
  13. Some days ago, I shot a couple of long scenes in a very crowded shopping center where the background was very loud. I had 3 Zaxcom LANC transmitters and, at the last minute, I had to add an other mic and I used a backup Sennheiser G3. All had Sanken Cos11 as mic. Yesterday, I listened at the files in ProTools and noticed that the Sennheiser had a better separation between actor voice and background noise. I compared it (it was mounted on a man) with an other male actor standing beside him, but having Zaxcom Tx, with the mic in the same position and at the almost identical level of voice and the Zaxcom had the background noise at a noticeable higher level. Someone using different brands of wireless experienced something similar (even comparing other brands than mine)? Coul it be a more aggressive setting of the Sennheiser expander? Just curious. Vale.
  14. Hello all, I've been using the Fusion 12 for a while now and suddenly I am hearing a high pitched tone on inputs 9-12. I hear the tone regardless of whether or not the Fusion is connected to the MIx 12. I hear it on PFL with the fader up or down and also when the fader is up nomally. I also hear it with all inputs disconnected but only on 9-12. It sounds like a 240 cycle hum or higher but it's hard to say for sure. Anyone else heard of this problem?
  15. Hey all, Recently I was on a shoot with another soundie who had a Nomad and I realised that my Maxx had a fader lag (maybe 0,3s) that wasnt there on the Nomad. Just wondering if its just mine or are all the Maxx like this? Thanks, ps: senator; yes I will contact the manufacturer about this but would still like the group the weigh in. Franky

  17. Hey crew. Will try to bring you up to speed with my thoughts / needs and hoping for some opinions. Sorry if this post is a little all over the place. I have been using a Fostex PD-6 for some years now and frankly love it aside from a few things. Namely the time consuming data transfer at the days end, and some specific functionalities. Have always ogled over other mixers using the Devas and feel like I'd much prefer Zaxcom than a Sound Devices. I am primarily a cart mixer however the past few shows have required fast switching between cart and portabrace bag set ups. Therefore I have built a smaller "bag cart" and been mixing without the EX-12 extension to the PD-06 (read as: more annoyance with data management/transfer) I must point out that I am young and in a state of growth. Starting to work on larger productions. The Fostex was a great solution for some years due to the price point and bang for buck. Wanting to move to something with less hassle transferring and managing media, I considered the Nomad, however for many reasons I considered the SD 664 but 48kHz max is a deal breaker. I record SFX libraries as well and need high sample rates. I've ruled both the Nomad and Fusion out. I've come to the conclusion that the Deva is the way to go (after reading a lot of user manuals, still have not tried any of these and plan to.) I will be buying used. I would like to find a Deva in good condition with accessories, (cables, portabrace, hard case, drive caddy's etc..) just as I did when buying my PD6 years ago. Since the driving factor is moving to solid state / flash media, I believe that the Deva 5.8 to be the best option. However, I do not see many used compared to the Deva V. I am aware the Deva V can use flash media (via USB?) but is this only to transfer data after its been recorded? I very much like the idea of being able to burn a DVDRAM (I still have many, and the luxury of handing some disks to DIT and going home is quite nice,) That said, does the Deva V burn regular DVDs or DVDRAM?... Additionally I like the idea of having CF cards as well and the internal spinning hard disk for longer record times etc. Regarding price and being realistic, a Deva V seems so much more attainable at my current budget level and based on availability (looking in the JW buy and sell and Trew audio consignment for example) However having only 4 pots for mixing in a bag is a concern to me and also the lack of integrated compact flash media (unless plugging in via a reader is truly reliable?) I will eventually get into a mix-8 or mix-12 for the cart so a Deva V would be more workable mix wise, however I don't want to shoot myself in the foot with buying a machine thats "too old" like the FostexPD6.. Part of me keeps coming back to the Fostex PD-606. Perhaps I am jumping too far ahead and should consider the PD606.. I like the Pd6 and always thought I would advance to the bigger brother in the Fostex line. However I am really trying to get away from "buy cheap , buy twice" Once again, sorry for the scattered thoughts in this post. I plan to buy in the spring / summer of next season so I do have some time, but this investment is weighing a lot on my mind and I would like to really hash some things out by getting the opinions of some folks who have first hand experiences with these machines. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I will answer any questions you may have and post more thoughts and details as they come to mind. I appreciate your opinions!
  18. I'm looking to upgrade to a pair of Zax radios and a receiver for bag work. I am mainly curious about the difference in range and power efficiency between the LA2/LT2. I'm wondering: 1) Is the LT2 available at 125 mW? perhaps via special order / mod? 2) How is range with 50mW using whip antennae on the QRX235? (I'm working from a bag) 3) Does the LT2 run twice as long as LA2 assuming same power setting etc? 4) Or like 2/3 of a day instead of half a day? 5) Is there any advantage to the QRX200 over the QRX235? (I remember Rado looking to swap his 235 for a 200 but don't remember why) No Zax dealer in my country so any advice/experience is much appreciated.
  19. Hey Guys, First post in the forum, been lurking for a while. So my upgrade aspirations in the future include DPA lav's and a complete Zaxcom Nomad with the TRXLA2's. Currently I'm using G3's into a DR-680 as my wireless solution. My question is, because DPA's are so expensive, I'd rather not rebuy them when I upgrade to the Zaxcom. So if I get microdot-terminated 4063's, will they work on both G3's and TRXLA2's? I thought I read something here that the lower voltage 4063's could work fine on higher voltages? Many thanks for your kind help.
  20. I've found some third party Lemo-compatible screw-on type 3-pin connectors that I much prefer over the actual Lemo version. These are the connectors that would be used with a Zaxcom transmitter, or higher end Sennheiser model. When I first got some of these I thought they were Lemo brand and that the company had improved them. Then, I realized that they were a third party version. These connectors use a tightening collar strain relief (that can be reused) rather than the crimp style that Lemo screw-ons have. Picture a strain relief more like what Neutrik XLRs use. They are easier to both wire and assemble (you don't need a special tool) and can be reused. One caution is that if you're removing a previous cable, be very careful not to pry the tiny strain relief "fingers" out too far (in order to release the old cable), as they can break. Including the vinyl boot, the original Lemo version is made up of seven parts, this one has only five. The vinyl boot comes standard with this version, whereas you need to order it separately with the actual Lemo. These connectors seem to screw on and off the Zaxcom transmitters easier than the actual Lemos. ...Oh, and they cost less, too. I stumbled onto a few some time back and then searched for months to find a source for them -- to finally discover they are readily available via our regular suppliers -- if only you know what to ask for and where to tell the dealer to source them from. It's a simple as: Call your favorite professional sound dealer (what we here call, "The Usual Suspects") and tell them to order "Reusable 3-Pin Lemo Connectors" from Redding Audio. The Redding Part Number is "RED16". They can be found on the Audio Limited price list. Redding Audio is the distributor for Schoeps, Rycote, Ambient, and Voice Technologies, among others, so any professional sound dealer who serves our industry, already has a working relationship with them. The top photo below is of a standard Lemo screw-on 3-pin connector (minus the boot), and the bottom photo is of the improved (in my opinion) connector. This version may even end some people's hatred of wiring Lemo connectors.
  21. I'm making a timecode cable for ERX2TCD to 5 Pin Lemo for Red One Cameras. I'm planning on wiring Tip (3.5mm TRS) to Pin 2 (5 Pin Lemo). Do I need to wire ground (Pin 1 for RED one)? If so were does it connect on the TRS? New to making timecode cables. One day at a time...
  22. Great news for Maxx owners: Just spoke to Glenn and asked him about zaxnet commands from maxx TC out. He assured me it will happen. No timeline yet but still a positive development.
  23. Hi. My name is Eugene. I'm working under a Production Sound team based in Korea. Our team recently switched our Recorder from Fostex PD6 to Zaxcom's Fusion12. As you can see the huge years gap between the two recorder, and also our lack of English to properly navigate through the manual or google searches etc. we are facing many difficulties to make this new fancy gear work properly. So if anyone can kindly help us out, it will be a great help. 1. File naming issue. we are wondering if Fusion12 has an option to save the recorded files name as "Scene_Take" instead of the default "segnamez000.zax(/wav)" we came to an answer to use WaveAgent to rename the files, after copying to our PC but if we can save it as "Scene_Take.zax(/wav)" from the beginning that will save huge time for us. 2. Zaxconvert, MacOSX freeze we were testing the Zaxconvert, works as it suppose to on our PC. but when we tried it on our Macbook pro(we did downloaded the newest 'for Mac' from Zaxcom) we faced an issue. The program itself runs. But when we click the Translate Files after setting options and output folder, another pop-up window showes up with a progress bar saying "Translating Files". but the progress bar never shows any progress being done, and freezes. (Can't even force quit) Our MacOSX version is 10.9.3, we bought it brand new just for the purpose to work with Fusion. Only other program on the Macbook is Protools, WavAgent and BWFmanager. Anyone had simlar issue? Solutions? 3. Testing Sample rate 192 & no sound on Headphone as the Fusion manual recommended, we did Factory Reset to make sure turning off all the effects and also changed the Rate step by step from 48>96>192. we test recorded 1 files each used 4 channel on all the sample rates. It was lagging a bit on 192 but was ok. But after recording 192, when we tried to go back to 96, Fusion12 Freezed. we had to turn off the recorder and turn it back on. And suddenly from that point, our headphone stopped. (which is the main reason we decided to post this topic for help) Headphone works fine on other devices. the Recorder is still getting levels from the mics. It's just something wrong between the recorder and our headphone and we can't find what it could be. More surprisingly, we lost the way to go to 'headphone volume' screen. We thought maybe somehow the Volume is off and wanted to check it, we all saw it before when we were testing other things. And no one of our team is able to reach that screen again. On the Manual it says press 'HPH' button and it will go to Headphone Options and if we press it again it will go to Headphone Volume. But now we only have Headphone Options and Home Screen. Also going through pressing 'Menu > Headphone options setting' way is lost as well. We tried Factory Reset, Changed Sample Rate to 48k still Headphone not working.
  24. I just received the latest version of software with USB key board support for Nomad. The key board will not be just limited to meta data entry, You will be able to go through all menus and change parameters, adjust trim, change matrix selections, toggle through your head phone selects etc, Pretty much if you had a mix 8 and a USB key you would have to touch you nomad.
