  1. Has anyone else found they need to crank the trim all the way up using a Boom Mic? I use a Sennheiser 416, Phantom Power is on. I just always seem to be cranking the trim all the way up. Is there a setting I'm missing, input limiters or something like that that I should check on? Thank you. -W
  2. After maximising the gain in a sound file using adobe audition, I export it and put it in premiere pro. I check the gain levels of the same file and it’s peak amplitude is -7dB. Why does this discrepancy occur? I demonstrate this in the attached video. IMG_6298.MOV

  4. I've been wondering about a few things. First, I've found that when using my 302 with a Rode NTG-3, a Sanken CS3e and Oktava and Schoeps hypercardioids it seems that in most cases (quiet to medium volume interview speech, for instance) I have to set the gain pot on the 302 around three-o'clock to get levels like 0-+12 on the mixer. More or less depending on the mic in question. Is this what one might expect? I assume it probably is, since I would think the possibility of having a defective mixer are fairly low. Second, I wonder if someone knew about the best gain staging when going from 302 to a Sony PMW-EX1 via two Sennheiser G3's. I've found that when setting the G3 Tx's to -42 dB sensitivity and having the EX1 inputs as line levels, you have to crank the EX1 gain pots all the way up AND set the G3 Rx's to max output to get the levels even somewhat matching. I'm wondering if it might be better or worse to try setting the EX1 inputs on mic level and first turn down the camera inputs, then Rx output (if needed) to get to matching levels. The production we're working on is a busy, low budget reality show in noisy places and the DP and I live in different cities so no time to play around and try out for best results so I was wondering if someone had any experience on this particular camera and its audio quirks. Thanks!
  5. Hey guys. I recently purchased a Lectro SRa for use as a camera hop, and took it out for the first time a few days ago. It was fed by 2 SMQV's, which in turn were fed by the line level outs of my 788. I left the gain of the 788 output at -4dB and set both the tx's and rx gain to zero. When I did this, I noticed that the metering on the SRa seemed really hot, while the meters on the tx's were barely hitting above -20. Did I get something mixed up with the gain staging here, or am I just misreading meters on the SRa (I haven't found anything in the manual about the meter scale)? Seems like the metering on the tx's should be more or less identical to the rx, assuming that there's no additional gain applied to the rx. Right?
  6. A few reports from users in the field on odd gain staging from the d4 into camera. Line level too quiet mic level too hot aes lines up quite nicely any thoughts? opinions? suggestions?
