  2. Hello, Does anybody have, or know of, any MS recordings that compare the MKH40 to the MKH50 with that as the only variable in the comparison? I'm trying to get a feel for how the different polar patterns will affect an MS recording, but I haven't found anything that directly shows this. I'm trying to decide between the 40/50/8040 for a mid mic, and since I might get a stereo pair of 8040s and could use one of those for MS occasionally, it seems like it's coming down to this question of the 40 vs. 50. I know the 40 is classic but some say it's boring, some say the 50 is "beefy" but perhaps I will lose a lot of the image going super-cardioid? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
  3. Hi all, I've been a lurker here for quite a while and have even bought gear from a member, but this is my first post. Here goes! I have an MKH8040 and a MKH30 that I want to use in an M/S configuration. I'd like to get a Rycote stereo windshield kit for it but I'm a bit lost as to which. I'm familiar with their modular windshield kits for single mono mics, but have never worked with their stereo kits. The Rycote website is not too helpful, as my configuration is not listed in their guide (http://www.rycote.com/images/uploads/compatibility_charts/Stereo_Microphone_List-October_2010.pdf). I'll probably stop by Trew Audio in the next couple of days, but in the meantime I was wondering if anybody has experience with this particular combo -- is there a way to make it work with a Rycote stereo kit? Thanks, Alex

  5. Hey Everyone, It seems like forever since my last blog post but I've finally published the next installment! http://soundrelated.com/a-day-at-the-tibetan-opera/ Here you will find me recording Tibetan Opera in the mountains of McLeod Ganj, home of the Dalai Lama and exiled Tibetan government. As always the recordings are included in the post. I'll bet you haven't heard anything like this before! You may also notice the site has undergone a major facelift, so feel free to have a look around and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

  8. Hey All, Just published my latest blog entry on Sound Related. http://soundrelated.com/the-tharu-pumpkin-man/ This is a recording I made on my last day in Sauraha, Nepal. It features one of the local Tharu villagers singing and playing an odd stringed instrument made from a pumpkin! Very cool. Enjoy! Jo
