  1. Great news for Maxx owners: Just spoke to Glenn and asked him about zaxnet commands from maxx TC out. He assured me it will happen. No timeline yet but still a positive development.
  2. Hey everyone, This is my first post on this forum so hopefully this is the right place to post this. If not, let me know. I'm excited to have found this online community and I've already learned a ton from reading through the forum. I'm having a weird issue with my Zaxcom Maxx and RX200 and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on how to resolve the issue. Here's what's going on. Zaxcom Maxx with built in transmitter (Block 23) sending audio and timecode to a brand new RX200. It locks signal and works perfectly as long as the Maxx is being powered by the power supply or internal AA batteries but as soon as I plug in an external battery distribution system it drops signal constantly (every couple of seconds). I've tried a Remote Audio BDS with NP1 system that powers our Nomad system perfectly, and my new Audioroot esmart battery system. Both systems cause the RX200 to instantly drop signal; unplug it and it locks back in. Waiting on a call back from Zaxcom but I've got a shoot Monday so I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas.
  3. Hi, I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. I have a question regarding a file that is playing back a close to double speed. This was first noticed after it was transferred from the Maxx after a job along with all the WAV files as I normally do. After noticing the problem, which occurred on only the last file of many recorded that day, I re-transferred that file from the MARF thinking it was a simple transfer error. But the version converted from the MARF via Zaxconvert has the same double speed issue. Now I have played the same file in the Maxx and it is also a double speed. Obviously this is not how it sounded while I was rolling. Luckily for me, I was also feeding two cameras so no audio was lost but it is nevertheless quite disconcerting. I know I can experiment with changing the speed to closely match the original normal speed of the other files but I am really wondering what may have caused this and how to avoid it in the future. This has never occurred before on either the Maxx or Nomad and it did not occur with any other files from the same day folder. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Adriano
  4. I'm embarking on a month-long shoot that will take me across the country (twice). Having switched to the Maxx a few months ago, and being vocal about it on here, I'm setting up this thread as a blog of my travels, packing light while sound recording, and running the Maxx for a month straight. Due to the nature of the work I'll be running the recorder for upwards of 12-16 hours a day. I took advantage of the new 2.0 software and made a TA5 to dual XLR cable for the return to act as additional inputs (hardware inputs 5/6). I'll be running a boom and four Sennheiser G3's. I know I know, Sennheisers, but they are what I have to work with and I'll be upgrading to Lectros when I return. Which, if anyone has some 211's in blocks 19-21 for a modest price, I'd love to talk with you in early February. The Maxx is great on batteries, but I'm bringing 3 NP-1's just in case I'm crunched for charging time. Plus some backups Powerex's in the device. And about 40 more AA Nimh's for the G3's. I crammed all of my gear, clothing, and expendables for the month into a Pelican 1650, a Boreas Erawan 50 backpack/duffel, and a K-Tek KBLT35 boom pole case. The K-Tek case is holding my Klassic boom pole, 416 in blimp, and a Tascam DR-40 to use as a plant mic. Thank god for packing cubes. I fly out tomorrow. I'll start posting from the road this weekend. I'm excited to push the Maxx this next month and document how my gear weathers the storm.
  5. Hey all, Recently I was on a shoot with another soundie who had a Nomad and I realised that my Maxx had a fader lag (maybe 0,3s) that wasnt there on the Nomad. Just wondering if its just mine or are all the Maxx like this? Thanks, ps: senator; yes I will contact the manufacturer about this but would still like the group the weigh in. Franky
  6. Hey Guys, Finally, This is the second of the AO bags to go through the redesign process. Of course this bag is obviously very similar to the previous AO-1.5, the main change is the internal dimensions of the bag. Its the smallest of the AO bags. A lot of enquiries about the handles, pockets and modular sides have been brought up. I am dealing with quite a few requests for custom variations of the bag. I'll be sure to post pictures of these custom requests. Also, If certain customer adaptations or changes prove to be popular, then more than likely, that may well be an adaptation that can be permanently made to the factory stock AO. Thank you again for all your input and suggestions. 2.9lbs Empty, no strap. W11 x D5.5 x H6 The main changes from the old AO-1 are: Large access flap on back. (Media/Battery) With attached external pocket. NP1/BDS/transmitter pockets on both sides. Boom rest/headphone pouch/flask pocket on right. NP1 Velcro locks on each side. Metal harness attachment rings each side. Smaller compact collapsible front pocket. Accessory storage in front pocket. Interior copper colored lining. Longer carry handles. Longer vinyl cover. Double layer vinyl pocket for small equipment. Boom-pole attachment point. 2 x Solid dividers. http://www.portabrace.com/products/audio/organizers/923-ao-1x

  8. So Maxx is currently well into beta testing and so far it is passing with flying colors. Just a few more software tweaks and they will start shipping. My impressions so far: I like that Maxx is very compact and light weight. The screen brightness when turned to 11 is quite bright - Zaxcom has somehow made the screen even brighter than in Nomad - and the removal of the plastic overlay cuts down on glare which adds to the visibility. The menu structure is very similar to Nomad so anybody who is familiar with Nomad can jump right in with no learning curve. I like the added dedicated PFL buttons. As for the down side - they are all software related annoyances which will be fixed prior to release.

  10. This was posted in one of the 633 threads today - I didn't wan't to hijack that thread so I brought it over here. Newzik - I heard that there are going to be some really kick ass software updates coming for Maxx, so since you waited this long you might want to hang in there

  12. Hi everyone, I have decided to get a new mixer/recorder (having previously worked with an SD442 going direct into a REDONE with tons of heavy XLR cables - but now I am looking for a double – system along with an Epic) and after doing a lot of reading here I am leaning heavily towards a full Zaxcom – system; hoping for great RF - noise - free sound in post, and no hassle with timecode – issues. I was thinking of getting a Maxx, or a Nomad, along with two TRX900LA’s, one QRX100Q, and one ERX2TCD sitting on the camera feeding scratch – audio and TC, and perhaps one ERX2TCD for the directors ear. My needs are perhaps slightly different than many other on this forum. I rarely need more than 4 ISO’s. I film two or three actors talking together, lavaliere’d up, with one boom – track, which I preferably use, when I can. But wireless abilities are also very important in situations of running around in a more spontaneous fashion, or in doing documentary work. So in a way, maybe the choice to get a Maxx is obvious. Budget is an issue, and the price - difference between a Nomad 10 and a Maxx with equal possibilities of feeding a scratch – track/TC is a about a 1000 dollars more for the Nomad 10 (with the Nomads Zaxnet, and with the Maxx I’d get the IFB – option on the QRX100). The advantage of the Nomad is giving me Zaxnet and more channels should I need them. More future proof? More tested? Firmware less buggy? Available now... The smaller formfactor of the Maxx, is, however, very appealing, although I am unsure how big the real – life difference would be (1.5 pounds?). I would love a bag as small, cablefree and neat as possible though, like most people, I guess. (Could I even use the Maxx only on AA – batteries? I don't mind getting many ENELOOPS should it diminsih size/weight) What would you get being me? - Are there any NOMAD owners out there that would rather want a MAXX were they buying today? I realize it is a problem of luxury, but it will be a very large investment for me, and I'd be afraid of the potential bitterness evolving in getting something I'd regret on. PS. Don’t chop my head off, I see many heads are being chopped off here – I am a newbie, only looking for great equipment and advice from users with more knowlegde and experience than myself (and I have done quite a bit of reading:) Fredrik
