  1. I record a lot of car exhaust, using a 744t with SM58 mics. Usually this combo works really well (at least I think it does, you can see a sample at https://youtu.be/ALQn0eTXttA), but sometimes the exhaust I'm recording has a huge bottom end AND a lot of high frequency sound as well. Since the SM58's seem to be optimized for mid-frequencies, I just can't get a full-bodied sound in those cases. Can you please recommend other mic choices that give me a wider range of recording capability, but can record really LOUD sound sources like the SM58's can? Obviously I'm not a trained sound pro, so please excuse any errors in my terminology. Appreciate any help.

    Line or Mic Level Input

Line or Mic level input preferred on my mixer? Know the differences between the two types of signals and the basics but, beyond that, unclear which is best for production mixing. Is there a discernable difference? Explain like I'm 5.

    Line Audio Omnis

Hey guys, Looking into getting a set of omnis for amb spaced pair recording. Have heard some good things about the line audio (made in sweden) brand. Price point is nice. Any stories to tell about them? Decent sound, wind noise, etc....

    Lavs to Zoom H4N/H6

Hello All, I would like to know if it's possible to get cleaner audio from a lav receiver to a Zoom H4N/H6? Is it possible to plug a 1/4 plug from the lav to the Zoom instead of the XLR to get better audio? Thank you.

    good budget mic?

I'm looking to record some acoustic guitar and vocals in my house. I have a focusrite scarlett which is really good but i wondered if anyone could recommend a really good budget condenser mic for under £200 that they had used. I may use as a room mic for drums as well thanks in advance
  6. Hey Guys, I'm new here and I've done a few searches looking for the info I need but haven't quite found an answer to my specific question. I'm shooting for 3 weeks in the Philippines on a doco - I'm setting up an audio rig with 2 radio mics (along with a boom). Nothing too strenuous, no water action, just interviews etc We'll be in Manilla but also Davao City. Only thing is I can't find any info on the restricted frequencies inside the Philippines. So I'm a bit confused as to which of the below options would work best for in country shooting.... So my three options for radio mics are: - Sennheiser EW 100 ENG G3-B - Sennheiser EW112-p G3 - Sennheiser EW122-p G3 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Best DPA 4063 Concealer?

Simple question here: do you prefer the DPA brand concealer (DMM0012) or the LMC Sound C Mount Vampire Clip for hiding 4063's. I'm interested in all of the obvious performance benchmarks, such as transmission of clothing noise. LMC: http://lmcsound.com/products/c-mount/ DPA: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/545888-REG/DPA_Microphones_DMM0012_DMM0012_Miniature_Concealer_for.html

    MIKE

So producer says they want to split the cameras to two different locations tomorrow. One for an interview and the other for recreation with four talent. I'm the only sound guy. She says they have an extra wireless microphone that the interview cam can use. This is a picture of what they handed me. When I stopped laughing, I broke a lectro out of my bag, set the cam up to record audio and wished the operator good luck. Note the MIKE in and out.
  9. I direct you all to view this hilarious video of a reporter falling off a boat. Classic. Hilarious. Possibly all fake. Point is is the second this accident happens this sound guy comes in, wearing no headphones, and INSTANTLY throws his boom towards the woman as if for her to grab on for dear life. Though sorta seemed to try to be nottttttt quiettttttt clossssse enough as if he was second guessing his decision. What do you think? Is this a real sound guy? Is this a real video? What would you do? What type of mic would you save a drowning woman for and which mic would you pretend you're jusssssst notttttt quietttttt close enough?

    DIY transmitter mic belt

Needed a mic transmitter belt for an actress. Bought some heavy elastan/polyester fabric, large velcro and started the sewing machine. Custom fit!
  11. I find myself in situations where I have to interview people for documentaries within their environments. Which often have a lot of noises. Traffic, air conditioners, strong weather sounds - snow storms, rain, wind. Or are quite reflective. I have found that I have mostly gotten the best results using lavs, my guess is because the signal to noise ratio is good. However, I have only hired them, and I don't want to buy them because I really don't like the sound the produce at all. Plus the hassle of attaching them to people and the lack of speed associated with that. Another technique I am considering is to capture establishing shots with a boom mic, and then switching to something like a neumann tlm 102 to record the rest of the interview off camera. Do you have any techniques or equipment recommendations for me? In the documentary, lightweight, non scripted environment. I appreciate your thoughts.

    Binaural Microphone

I'm going soon to Qatar to film a documentary that is pretty much Qatar in the eyes of a blind man. Yes i did write it correctly so you can imagine how important sound is and specially atmospheres. So i wanted to buy a binaural mic that i could record some nice atoms with during shoot and after. As mostly is going to be during the shoot, i wanted something small and unobtrusive as i am by myself. Surround mic was a nice idea, but neither budget or space allow for it, and the only small one (Sanken WMS-5) is not available to rent in the UK. Looking at good small binaural microphones, i realised most are just two good omnis tweaked and positioned to work as 1 stereo/binaural mic. I realised, i have a few good omnis in my kit, the cos11 lavs. So i decided to create a mount for them to use them as binaural. I used a pvc tube and foam inserts similar to hush-lavs but thicker: The 'ears' i made out of Sugru to have a bit of wind cover (although the sanken wind cover fits inside too), for a bit of back rejection and to make it look cool: I use 2 Ambien EMP5S to connect directly to 48v phantom, but i can also use 2 wireless if needed: The size of the tube is so it can fit on my bag for on the shoot ambience, but has a mounting screw for a stand: I was going to upload some test recordings but i figured i'll wait and upload the actual ones i'll be recording on the documentary. Opinions welcome Thanks for reading Diego

    Cheap Stereo Mic Solution?

Hey guys, Feel like I need a Stereo mic setup, my ambiences really lack in mono. Mixing for surround, so stereo ambiences is the least I can provide. Anything out there thats a no brainer for an entry level mic. I own a MKH50 and a 416. Maybe a third mic i could combine with these, I would like to keep it under 500. Or a self contained two mic unit. Any advice is appreciated.

    cylindrical p48 supply

Anyone aware of or ever had custom built a AA p48 supply? The Denecke PS-1A or the PSC box of the same variety are fine but in certain situations it'd be really handy to have one in a tube, so you could throw a AA in there and be done with it. Much like an ME66 or Rode Ntg-2. Does a standalone external one exist? if not, why?
