  1. Hey Guys, I need to clamp my iPad Mini onto my sound cart. Any ideas? Products? I'm in the UK. Thanks,
  2. Hello, does anyone using the Ipad for backing up daily files? I will be using an Ipad as remote for the sound devices 688 on a feature, and I am looking for a solution to use the ipad to make my own files back up (from CF or SD card to HDD), to avoid bringing along my laptop computer. I am new to Apple world and just got my IPad. So far I figured it is not possible but decided to post the question just in case ;-) Thanks Fred
  3. On some kind of mythical, possibly Quixotic journey to get marked up sides onto the iPad. Solving: Easiest way to highlight the sides from .pdf script and export to iPad app cable of interfacing with Bluetooth page-turning hardware pedal (PageFlip Firefly $109/two AA batteries is the hardware I chose). ForScore is the first and only PageFlip-compatible app I've tried. Pretty good, but would prefer an app better suited for highlighting in many colors. This one requires I hand-build all the highlighter colors and is clunky when switching pages (you have to get out of highlighting mode first) and clunky to change colors. Moot if there's an app made specifically with highlighting with many colors in mind. Here are currently-listed compatible iPad apps: forScore, unrealBook, Deepdish GigBook, DrumSetlist Manager, Hymnals, iCue, iGigBook, iReal b, Loopy, Loopy HD, MuseScore Sheet Music Viewer, Music Binder, MusicReader, MusicPodium, My Lyric Book, NextPage, NextSong, OnSong, PiaScore HD, Play On Cue, Pocket Jamz Guitar Tabs, Pocket Jamz Piano Notes, PrompterPal, SampleWiz, Avid Scorch, Scorio Music Case, SeeScore, Finale SongBook, Sheet Music Direct, Scorecerer, Set List Maker, Setlists, Steinway Etude, TheGigEasy, Virtual Sheet Music, Teleprompt+, and Planning Center Online Here are the compatible Android apps: Android: MobileSheets, MusicNotes, SongBook, Fakebook, Lyrics Flipper+, Moon+ Reader, EBookDroid, Cool Reader, ezPDF Reader, and any other keyboard-compatible app. Tried GoodReader .pdf app for highlighting. As with most, it can import docs from Dropbox, email, etc., but again it's not so friendly when changing colors 'cause you have to 'save' the pink on the page before changing to green on the same page. One would benefit from doing all of the 'orange' for the whole script, then all the 'pink', then... A screenshot from GoodReader's highlight operation: Tried PDFPen, a paid Mac application I got to digitally sign .pdf's and works OK, and easier for me to deal with on the laptop (as opposed to iPad). Imagine there's a better application for that OS. Preview only offers a few highlighter colors but words very well otherwise. Here's a video exploration of the above-referenced tools: Typing out the issues helped; thanks Anybody successfully doing this yet?
  4. I came upon an ad for this easel for tablets and smart phones. It looks pretty good to me although I've seen it only in the pictures in the ad. According to the ad, it's made of metal; judging by the variety of colors available I expect it's probably anodized aluminum. It would need some velcro to be secure for use on a sound cart but I thought the integration of a battery supply was a useful feature, permitting use away from AC without taxing the battery used for the recording gear. At only a bit over $40, it might be worth a try. 5. For an upcoming job I've been asked to feed my mix to an iRig PRO (connected to an iPad) for reference. The iPad will be recording video and sound for reference and archival purposes. From what I've seen on the IK Multimedia website, it'll take a line-level signal. I'm planning on sending the feed via Comtek taped to the device (which will be housed in some sort of cradle.) Seems pretty straightforward, but I'll be grateful for any known pitfalls or insight you could share with me. TIA!

  7. Hi I've been researching quiet a lot on wireless video solutions and found out that the Teradek Cube 155 might be the best solution there is at the moment for boom op. reality, documentary ect. It seems that the latency that there is, happens in the receiver (the iOS device). My question is: with the so much faster processors and wi-fi parts in the latest models, compared to the earlier, iPhone 4, iPad1 ect, Does anybody know the latency when the Cube is used as a stand alone device with a direct connection to the latest i-devices? And is it possible to use it with audio, as IFB? or are there still a lot more latency when sound is being embedded to the wi-fi signal? Will the use of more than one iOS device on the same Cube 155 signal increase the latency? I hope that there is some users out there that knows about this. Thank you very much
  8. every time i have upgraded the os on my ipad 1 i have noticed a resulting overall slowness in the browser. it has recently come to my attention that the upgrades are tweaked for the processors of the newest ios devices and running the upgrades on older devices results in problems. when this occurs the natural solution would be to downgrade to the previous ios and resolve the problem. however, apple does not allow that and while it has some good reasons to do so the downside is that many devices are forced into obsolescence. there are workarounds for these problems and they are sometimes specific to the ios versions you have on your device, but, from what i have been reading, apple is making it increasingly difficult to downgrade unless (in most cases) saving files using specific software and then jailbreaking to restore the previous os. luckily ipad 1 is running 5.1.1 so needless to say i wont be upgrading. i also deactivated notifications, messaging, email, location, etc and the thing runs pretty well. this will most likely be the last apple product i will buy. obsolescence is a given in this day and age, but when a manufacturer exceeds its authority in helping the process along i say 'include me out.'
  9. I really like the JoeCo recorder - up to 64 tracks in 1 RU with ltc/iXML BWF-M files to a USB harddrive all on 12 volts! The one thing I found lacking was metering - it's just too much information to fit on a 1 RU chassis. That's been addressed handily by the newly released JoeCo Remote, which provides metering and control to the much larger iPad screen. One of the issues that iPads have are that most apps that interface to "real world" hardware rely on Wifi, which we know can be problematic in congested areas. The JoeCo Remote solves this by giving you the option of using it hardwired, by turning the headphone jack of the iPad into an old-fashioned modem to connect directly to the serial port of the JoeCo. I hope other manufacturers take note. We (Gotham) should have stock within two weeks, selling for just under $500. More info here:http://joeco.co.uk/main/JCR_introduction.html Peter Schneider
  10. For all you timecode buddy users out there, I have made my own custom TC slate to use with MovieSlate or your other favorite slate app. I started by customizing a cheap Ikan slate. I removed the clappers, bought new light weight, yet durable black board and cut it to size. Then I drilled new holes, fastened the clapper sticks via screws to the board, did some other mysterious modifications to improve the quality of the clappers and made the new slate customizable. I am using the survivor military case for the ipad, along with additional screen protection that is replaceable. There is a half inch border of board to help additionaly protect the ipad. The neat thing here is that you can swap between the Ipad and the original slate anytime you want. Check out the photos and video and let me know what y'all think. :-) http://youtu.be/7sNs7vQJMmI
  11. I think there was a thread, or a tangent on a thread, but I can't find it, so..... What are the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch apps you have found useful for work? Not time killers, but actually useful. My phone is currently a Droid (till next iPhone is released), but I have an iPad too, so I might be missing some apps. Offhand the ones I know about, and find useful: LectroRM FreqFinder I'm dabbling with Sound Report Writer for run+gun bag work notes that I would otherwise scribble on paper. Specifically jobs that issue a 744T and I don't have my Fusion. On my iPad, I have the Denecke and Ambient TC apps. I have not gotten/made the cable yet, so I have not really tried them out yet. anything I am missing out on?
  12. The latest version of Apple's development tools for iOS does not support armv6 devices. This means that I can't easily build for both iOS 6 and iOS 4.2.1 users. These are the devices that will be affected: iPhone 3G (not 3GS) iPod Touch 2nd Generation I can try to figure out a work around (not that there necessarily is one), but I wanted to hear from people still using those two devices. I may have to drop support for them. -James
  13. I came across this device and wonder is anyone else using it. The kit includes the dictaphone-shaped transmitter and reciever (working with 1/8 inch jacks). Also includes the 30pin-connector-transmitter for iPhone/iPod/iPad which you see in the foreground. The other thing u see in the box is a USB power adapter. The battery life doesn't look amazing and it works in the 2.4GHz band, so not ideal for IFB, but could be great for music playback. Anyone have thoughts, or anyone using it?
  14. Hello all, been viewing this great forum for a while. Diving in with my first post. I did a search but couldn't find anything relevant, apologies if the topic has already been covered. I just purchased an iPad, Movieslate app & have installed CL WIFI on the iPad. I'll be going the paperless route for my sound reports & I would like to do the same for scripts, reading & annotating them on the iPad. Anyone doing this? Here's some background info, if at all helpful: I work on a long running television series that currently gives paper scripts to all crew members that need it. I use these to write my sound reports on the back of (notes mainly) & to mark up the scripts, making dialogue amendments & highlighting speech numbers according to boom 1, boom 2, lav 1,2,3 etc. I do this as I create a stereo mix of all necessary tracks, as most on here probably do. By using different coloured highlighters on the paper scripts, I know when to throw up and down the faders to minimise extra noise in the mix tracks, reduce confusion/too many signals for my boom ops & to just pull a clean mix for post. I'm told they use my mixes a lot of the time (as its a high turnover drama). Anyone else work this way or have different suggestions on other workflows? Any responses greatly appreciated! Thanks all.
  15. Cool mod! Now if you could hook this up to the iPhone so that timecode runs on the iPad via wifi using the iphone as master as well as logging starts and stops to sound reports, all just by pushing record and stop:) Or (hint hint Sound Devices) add timecode out link to the cl wifi so that the the idevices can receive timecode along with its current features (similar to Zaxnet). And jump into bed with one of these sound report companies (movie slate) or allow PDF sound reports from iPad... Just some ideas.
