Are there any craps players out there that want to meet up before or after the dinner? I'm still learning the game and would feel less intimidated at the table if there was some fellow mixers there that know what they're doing.  ^_^

If I had time I'd show you. I learned from John Coffey. Always bet on 6 and 8, and spread the love. One of my uncles is a casino pit boss, and he said your best bet to win money in any casino is to play craps. He said always bet 6 and 8 because the come up the most, then play the rest of the numbers in that group. Only play the field when you have extra money. Press until you've at least doubled your money and then take the money off and start playing again with your winnings. I've seen people do this and tike home a mini jackpot of money.

I've done that the last few times I've played and was able to pay for my trip. =)  Then again, I don't spend too much in Vegas anyways so basically I won a couple hundred bucks. Still, its a great feeling going home knowing you don't spend a dime in Vegas.

In case it wasn't mentioned earlier in this thread, I propose giving credit where it's due and transition the name of this sacred event to "JWSound Party".

Ramps was a great thing back in the day, but it didn't age gracefully and has clearly been replaced with the JWSound site. Does Ramps even exist any more?

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the JWSound party.

I don't completely agree, Glen. I'd guess that for an increasing number of party/dinner attendees the reference to RAMPS means nothing. So I can see a good argument for changing the name.

Jeff's a good guy and I'm super glad he hosts this site (thanks again Jeff!). But the party is bigger than any one person or place.

Perhaps we could call the dinner the Mixer's Mixer or something like Really Awesome Mixers Partying @ Sataybistro. The second one is kind of awkward so perhaps we should just use its acronym...

Quite clever, Jim, "Really Awesome Mixers Partying @ Sataybistro" = R.A.M.P.S. I think it is a really bad idea to think about re-naming this 20 year old event. It should always be the R.A.M.P.S. Party, that is it's legacy, even as r.a.m.p.s. slips further into oblivion. I don't mind at all if it is referred to as R.A.M.P.S./JWSOUND since I think we can all agree that it is JWSOUND community that has helped this wonderful annual party at NAB live on.

+1  I like "Really Awesome Mixers Partying @ Satay's".

This was discussed last year, I believe, and a few years before that with the same results from the same Jeff:  It is the RAMPS get together. That's tradition. It should hold up for the next hundred years or at least until nobody remembers what RAMPS stands for. That's probably more than half true now, anyway.

With all due respect to Jeff, and he is due a lot, this is a community of people that are collectively greater than any one person. And of course after Jeff gets us thrown out of the Satay, we may want to use a different name anyway.

Best,
Larry F

I unfortunately wont be able to make it. I am on to something big here, needs my presence here in India all through April...

I has sad.  :(

I'm thinking about bringing in some live music:

One thing I will do...and I got the ok from Toline...is to say that only sound mixers can put their name in for the door prizes. No manufacturers or dealers, please. This is an event for sound mixers, and I feel the sound mixers are the ones that should get the door prizes.

Larry is correct that this group is really about itself and not the founder JW as he well knows. Jeff had to call it something when he started but it evolved into this and that is what he wanted. Since I won't make it again this year I have little to vote on but if I did, I second Glen Trews suggestion.

The sound mixers should setup a drawing just for the manufacturers, to be fair. My guess is that there are some smart asses here that would come up with some pretty cute door prizes.

I'm all for that. When I threw the L.A. M.O.S shindig last year I thought it would be fun to have games too. Like who can hold the boom the longest or steadiest after X amount of tequila shots. IDK, some kind of sound mixer type olympics would be kinda funny don't ya think?

1 block off the strip, opposite MGM at the end of the monorail... $30/night.

Living out there for a year has its perks, I know the city. I'm excited to be coming back out this year!

which hotel is that?

Sorry, missed your question until now. I was waiting to name it until I got confirmation from them (booked on easyclicktravel.com through Kayak) and the hotel is Americas Best Value inn. According to Google Maps, it is in the same spot as a Howard Johnson's, an Econolodge (which I think became this ABVI) and next door to the Hooters casino hotel.

I would have stayed at the Hooters... But for $69 plus taxes per night... Can't beat this! Hopefully the only time I will need a taxi is to/from the party.

I can only imagine some of the things these guys would come up with. I can see it now, unpacking from the trip and my wife looking at me asking, "what are you doing with that??"

I just RSVP'd... This is my first time going to NAB, but my other half and I are celebrating an anniversary so I'm only about 50% sure we'll make it. Which leads me to a question: What is the vibe of this party to a newcomer? I've been a member here only half a year or so and been doing production sound on and off for just  5 years. Other than a few classified transactions, I don't think I've met anyone here. I guess I'm just curious if it'll be a good 'ol boys club or what... I'm already skating on thin ice with the old lady by scheduling our vegas get-a-way around NAB.... I've basically never attended any kind of meet up from any online forum I participate in and don't really know what to expect....
