cstauffer
I was just wondering if I could ask those of you with CAS in your names if you have found it a worthwhile thing to pursue having. What benefits have you found having it there? Thinking about possibly going for it as well. Aaannnnnd go... CRAIG
Scott Clements, CAS
I enjoy being part of a group that is dedicated to sharing and furthering the craft and art of sound for cinema. I am proud of my CAS designation, and respect my fellow members for their dedication to the craft. I think the "benefit" is in the eye of the beholder... old school
There is no known downside to being a member of CAS. CrewC
John Blankenship
The upside: adoring masses gather and lay palm fronds at your feet as you pass by. The downside: You have to learn to spell C A S. BTW, FWIW, ETC.: The official CAS stance is that we no longer use periods in the CAS, such as: John Blankenship, CAS rather than: John Blankenship, C.A.S. I think it was an ecological move in order to save overusing the period key on computer keyboards. Oh, and what Scott said.
Philip Perkins
The only downside I ever found was having to continually explain what it means (like in credits). If you are in LA there are a lot of great screenings and seminars, if you are in NY, SF etc a few screenings during awards season, and for everyone, lots of screeners. (This was a good year for screeners...) phil p
Jay Rose
You'd be supporting the craft you've chosen. How can that hurt?
Jan McL
Everyone's expressed the most important parts of being able to use the letters; let me add CAS Quarterly to the list along with the impressive company one keeps.
Devendra Cleary
Great and talented people who care about the craft and enjoy sharing knowledge and focus on education. The screeners and letters are a nice bonus. -Devendra Cleary, CAS

mikewest
I think producers or at least UPM's consider your credits and the rate you will accept. mike
