TV show in china looking for pick up crews in major cities in the US. Immediate need in Atlanta. Dates are tentative. Must have a team capable of doing single camera interviews on location. This are low budget but pretty straightforward shoots. Send reel and your crew background. I wonder if they can do a "trade out" of gear for work ? <G>
Jay Rose
TV show in china ... When these no-pay ads promise "get your name out there", they've not kidding. This is about as out there as you can get while still remaining on the planet.
Marc Wielage
Today's pathetic ad from Mandy: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vacancy: Dialogue Specialist Employer: UCLA Ext student film Location: CUlver City [view map] Duration: One day assignment, starts ASAP Payment is on a lo/no/deferred basis. I've shot a short film (about 6 minutes). All the editing including the dialogue editing is complete. HOWEVER, there are some issues with room noise, the boom mic being off the actor, one actor stepping on the line of another, etc. that need to be fixed. The final product needs to be at a level where it can play in theaters at short festivals and good enough that the film doesn't get rejected based on bad sound in the dialogue. I used Final Pro X (sorry) to edit it. Please let me know your rate and how soon you'd be available. Please include links to your work and/or reel. http://www.mandy.com...l=all&terr=uscs ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I feel like responding and saying, "you know, if you had hired a good location mixer to begin with, you'd be done by now. And it's very likely that this will take a week of work to fix, not one day... and at a cost far greater than what you can afford."

But you can get to Protools via the XML export and an XML->PT translator (I've forgotten the name but there's a thread here about it). Which he/she wouldn't want to pay for. bigbenboom
I have had to interview for a few jobs, and it always makes me laugh. Most of the time the hiring producer doesn't know anything about sound and I have to walk them through the interview.

johnpaul215
was it something that insanely terrible? It's pretty common to be interviewed for a gig, but not a gig that pays like.... $50 a day. I was sort of "interviewed" for a project that was all-in $150/day. Learning the rate was pretty much where the interview ended. I think they really just wanted to meet face-to-face and talk about their project, because they didn't really seem to know what to ask me. It was a mess (and waste of my time). There was a lot of "sound mixer hell" going on in that meeting.... except they didn't know what camera they were shooting on. ccsnd
" Learning the rate was pretty much where the interview ended. " I would need to have a good idea that there is a rate worth discussing before taking the meeting This is something I learned very quickly. I go a few steps beyond that. Here is my formula that has always been pretty spot on. I have never taken a job, or wanted to take a job that didn't answer this criteria. In the first 5 minutes of the conversation I should be able to 1.Know what the length of the project is. 2.What kind of rate they are expecting, if it is low budget, are they expecting me to put gear in with that same rate. 3.what camera they are shooting on. Historically, if at any time during this 5 minutes the person on the other end of the phone uses the words "ambitious" , "Great Opportunity", or any form of "everyone else is", the project is junk and I don't want to do it. Historically, if it takes longer than 5 minutes to answer these questions, they are trying to string me along and convince me to do a project they know I probably don't want to do. Chris Woodcock
If I hear at the start of the call something along the lines of "ambitious project" I take that as they don't want to pay me

johnpaul215
The camera line was kind of a joke (about the Red being best), though these days so many cameras use specific cables that you need to know in advance.
Angelo Waldron
Bust your ass on this one....... Looking for a Production Sound Recordist to work on a full feature. (Venice/Santa Monica) Date: 2012-12-12, 2:58PM PST Reply to this post fvpjq-3474330863@job.craigslist.org[?] We are looking for a Production Sound Recordist for a low-budget full feature psychological thriller - ''OKI'' (working title), that is going to be shot in locations at Venice and Santa Monica, Los Angeles. The production is European, lead by an award-winning director Maris Martinsons (''Loss'', ''Hong Kong Confidential''), who won the Best Director award at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2008. The film stars the highly regarded and internationally acclaimed Japanese actress, Kaori Momoi (''Memoirs Of A Geisha'', ''Sukiyaki Western Django'', ''Eijanaika'') together with two actors from Latvia and Lithuania respectively. The production offers a salary of $1500 for the whole production period including the necessary sound equipment (but these details can be discussed separately, depending on the needs and resources). We think that this is a great opportunity for a young professional, who wants to work with highly determined and talented people with the necessary experience and recognition. The production is planned to be fairly simple as the film focuses more on the performances and storytelling, allowing more freedom for filmmakers and the cast. Location: Venice/Santa Monica Compensation: $1500 for the whole production period (8 days) This is a contract job. Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster. Please, no phone calls about this job! Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests. studiomprd
" a low-budget full feature " oxymoron ? compared to an empty feature ?? " lead by an award-winning director Maris Martinsons (''Loss'', ''Hong Kong Confidential''), who won the Best Director award at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2008. " and supposedly known (but not in USA!) actors?? OK, these folks should have more than $200/day for sound, if they want to be real... BTW, "real" also includes insurance, permits, payroll, and rentals.
