Matt Geldof
I am starting on a show that requires a light run and gun set up and production is asking that I provide a Comtek M 216 TX. I'll be feeding this from the tape out of my SD 302. Just wondering who's used the Sound Devices schematic to build either the mono tape or mic level output cable? http://www.sounddevices.com/notes/mixers/302/302-tech-note-adding-a-mono-mic-level-output/#more-35 Which is best for the M-216? Are there any other options out there that any of you have been using?
AudioSheik
We made and sell this cable successfully for the m-216. I can send you the schematic we use.
Angelo Waldron
I made the mono line level out cable for the 302. It worked, but when I was testing it I noticed that it also reduced the separation between the 2 XLR outputs... like the tape out is not isolated from the XLR outs. Needs a dedicated mono IMO. Try it and see.

André Boisvert
In the same vein, has anyone made a box to switch between L/Mix/R using the tape out of a 302/442 to feed their Comtek?
jason porter
I haven't, but I have been planning one. I am having a hard time finding a 3 position switch (on-on-on) that isn't gigantic.
André Boisvert
That's perfect, Jim. Thanks. I see they don't make it anymore but there's one on Ebay with cables for $200. I had my mind set on a DIY solution, but I might just have to rethink that. Jason, I hope you'll post pictures if you make yours. Would love to see it. John Blankenship
It's a good idea to feed the M216 via the filtered cable Comtek recommends. It can make a difference.
guynoir
I'm going to make some input cables for my 216, having somehow lost the ones that came with it :-/ The manual says "Tip-sleeve" for audio, is it unbalanced input, or is it weirdly balanced with the ring being ground??? Thanks! jg
Rick Reineke
I have separate Tape out cables for 'Left only', 'Right only' and 'Summed'. (L+R mono). On the summed cable I put 10k ohm resistors to mitigate cross-talk. They didn't cost much since I built them myself.
studiomprd
" Tip-sleeve" for audio, is it unbalanced input, or is it weirdly balanced with the ring being ground??? " the manual seems pretty clear...
