Ron Scelza
Hi CrewC Hope all is well ... I'm selling my old friend The Cameo II, listed in the "For Sale Section here on Jeff's forum. You asked for a review of the Mix 12... I thought that I might share my thoughts with others as well ...HERE GOES! Zaxcom Mix 12 using Penny & Giles long throw... This board is about as close to no noise as physically possible with plenty of available gain... The thermal noise of the germanium and silicon is about all that might be there, "I can't hear it if it is". I can tell you that I've been many years removed from analogue and far from xformer hysteresis phase shift, noise and all stuff that that goes along... A "bit" spoiled.. The current draw of the Mix 12 is near nothing... The ergonomics are perfect... The record button is at a natural index finger placement. The keyboard and short cut keys -- a welcome innovation for entering metadata... Enabling/disabling EQ and notch filters per channel -- Very fast, no fuss... lots of memory... This is by far the simplest and quietest board that I have ever used. It has more processing facility than racks of processors... My past boards for location recording: Sela -- Soundcraft Location -- Soundcraft LM series -- The Zaxcom Cameo II... I have used many other boards for stage and for sound reenforcement. I love this board... Sincerely Ron
Guest klingklang
You should mention that it´s not a mixing-board and it actually doesn´t have any audio specs because it´s a remote-control for the deva.
old school
Thanks Ron, that sounds like the feedback I have received from others. As a deva 4 user who has used a cooper since they 1st came out, ( Jeff Wexler dropped off my cooper to me on the set in 89 I believe, one of the 1st 5 built.) I am intrigued with the expansion of the deva that the mix 12 allows. I have played w one at Coffey and really like the unit. Thanks for the feedback. Philip Perkins
I like the feedback about having the record and routing buttons close to hand w/ the faders--way cool. Philip Perkins
Bash
I have had the most pleasurable year now with my Mix 12 - It is/was one of the prototypes, and has been a total dream. It really does draw as near to no power as you can get. I love it. Kindest regards, Simon B I like the feedback about having the record and routing buttons close to hand w/ the faders--way cool. S Harber
After working w/ one for a week+ for the second time, the first thing I'd do is move the tone button to a more remote location rather than right above the PL buttons. I use tone once or maybe twice a day. Maybe put the slate mic in the Mix12 which is usually closer to my mouth than the recorder. Otherwise a cool tool. Haven't had the Deva/Mix12 lockup in the middle of rolling on a semi-daily basis like that last time I used it. Things are looking up. But I like it, I really do.
