arri
Grahh!! I still cant use my small usb keyboard (I am using an adapter). What a pity! Can I hope for the next firmware Tom? Take Renaming and Line level Input trim works great!
Tom Duffy
I use a USB keyboard with PS/2 adapter here with no problem. Did the adapter actually come with the keyboard? Some newer keyboards are now USB only, they don't recognize the trigger in the adapter that switches them to the old protocol.
aristotle_kumpis
Hey Tom. What types of CF cards do you recommend using? Do you suggest the 90MB/s cards, or is that overkill?
Philip Perkins
Would it be possible (maybe next rev) to allow the trims in line mode to go to "off" instead of -20? philp
Tom Duffy
Hey Tom. What types of CF cards do you recommend using? Do you suggest the 90MB/s cards, or is that overkill? The Sandisk ultras first came out with 30MB/s transfer. These are certainly good enough for 48kHz use. We currrently recomend Sandisk extreme (any version) CF cards for use across all sampling rates and mirroring combinations that the HS-P82 supports. 90MB/s is overkill - these cards only do that rate for single file bulk transfer, and if you're recording mono files, it's not a single stream of data any more. You might see use for the faster cards if you're pulling data off them in a dedicated FireWire CF reader.
Tom Duffy
Would it be possible (maybe next rev) to allow the trims in line mode to go to "off" instead of -20? philp They already do, there's a small step beyond -20 which goes to MUTE, similar to when in MIC level mode. Philip Perkins
They already do, there's a small step beyond -20 which goes to MUTE, similar to when in MIC level mode. I meant "fade to off", not "switch off". Is that possible with a line source? philp
Tom Duffy
Changing the taper on the trim pots again is possible, but I'm not seeing why. The mixer levels are smooth from +10dB down to -inf dB, we kind of expected people to mix using the mixer, not the trim pots, because the trim pots affect the levels in the iso files. One of the things I wanted to implement is a way to flip the control of the trims to the LCD and the mixer levels to the physical knobs. That would make it nice to use in a bag, but still, the HS-P82 is basically a cart recorder, so adding the RC-F82 gives you the best control. aristotle_kumpis
What about an update in the future to name tracks? Would that be possible?
Tom Duffy
What about an update in the future to name tracks? Would that be possible? The tracks already have 4 letter names displayed at the bottom of the meters, you edit these on the channel setup screen. The name is stored in the iXML chunk, so importing to iXML-aware software should be a breeze. I've had one request for longer than 4 character names, but there's no way I can see to show a longer name for all channels at once on the home screen, even if it was stored longer in the iXML. Robert Buncher
Tom, The HS-P82 seems to be a competitive choice for a cart mixer. Is there any plan to implement an auto mix feature?

Heresy, I know, but I'm an old-time heretic. I also like physical faders on a rig w/o a fader panel. Being able trim way down can be very useful. philp

No plans for this kind of thing in the immediate future, but how much would you pay for an update that had it? Tom.
Robert Buncher
I don't know what you could charge for an auto mix update. I do know that I am considering the HS-P82 for a cart setup, based somewhat on price.
aristotle_kumpis
Is it possible to keep the slate button locked? For example, I want to run tone to a camera but I have to keep the slate button pressed down. If I let go, it stops the tone/slate. It would be nice to be able to lock it down when needed. Tom Duffy
Is it possible to keep the slate button locked? Yes, this was added in V1.10. SHIFT+SLATE locks it on, tap SLATE again to clear it. Two handed operation though, the buttons aren't close enough for my hand anyway. Tom.
