Lectro Venue VRS vs VRT

Is the VRT available?  Is there any improvement in performance with a Venue system (VRS RX) and 200-series TX over using the 200 series RX?  Lectro told me (I'm probably the last to know) that the Venue adds delay to the analog TX signal to align it with the delay of a 400 series TX with in the system, allowing one to mix TXs w/ having different delays.  Cool.

Any real-world VRT vs VRS experience?

Is the VRT available?

Phillip,

In February I asked Larry Fisher when the VRT’s might become available, since my order was four months old.

Hi David,

The VRM (mainframe), the VRT and VRS were all redesigned by me.

Everything seemed to be doing fine until we built up 250 (!) of them.

(We were in a bit of a hurry to get them made since we all feel the

pain.)  A major layout problem with the VRT modules  was found. It

showed up as a spurious response when used in two receiver diversity.

This was 10 days ago. Yesterday, both the real reason for the problem

and a solution were finally found. 250 receivers are now headed for

the trash can. If I weren't president, they'd fire my butt.

A proto board with the newer  lay out will be here Tuesday for test.

The main vendor has the same files and is also starting to make the

new PC boards.

If the prototype fails, we stop the main vendor and pay a penalty.  I

head for a desert island with no communication facilities and catch up

on my comic books.

If the proto board works, we wait on the main shipment and build like

mad. Our production manager says we can have units starting to ship on

Mar 10. Older orders will be filled first and we have a lot of

catching up to do. Nothing else will have higher priority. At this

point just assume that I have inserted 5 or 10 weasel words about

shipping dates. You've heard them all before so I'll just not bother.

Best Regards,

Larry Fisher

Phillip,

The block diagrams of the VRS and VRT were on Lectrosonics website.  (Tonight I looked at the Lectro site so that I could include the URL of the block diagrams in this message, but I could not locate them.)

It appeard to me when I read the diagrams that the tracking front end of the VRTs resembled the 205 receivers that I use.  I recall that the VRS front end was comparable to a 201 receiver.

As far as availability they must be available since I have them!  Of course I ordered them a long long time ago.  Think summer 2005.  They work great as do the VRS modules.

Gordon kept telling me to do a direct comparison between the two and I did at one time and heard no noticeable difference between the two.  His thought was to put two transmitter as close as possible (frequencywise) to each other and see if you could hear the difference between the tracking module and the wideband front end of the VRS.  Slacker that I am I never got around to doing it, but there's still time!

Also on another note for someone who might be lurking from Lectro, when we do bring out the very nice looking bag system will it be wideband as far as the multicoupler goes or will it still be limited to two blocks as the present venues are???

Just Wondering - Thanks,
