Based on the story, it looks like they could use someone with Jeff's abilities (one of them being common sense!). Not sure if the headaches are worth it though....

Apple Booted two of it's top executives today.

Jeff, now's your chance to retire from the sound business and apply for that job you always dreamed of, Executive Vice president of Apple.

Yep, I think they're not happy about the bad performance of Siri and the disastrous (and embarrassing) snafus of Apple Maps in iOS 6. Scott Forstall was known to be a very combative, difficult person, to the point that hardware designer Jonathan Ives refused to be alone in a room with him -- they always had to have another exec present as "referee."

Analysis from MacRumours

Analysis from MacOutsider

Both are very thoughtful insights as to why these two executives have been booted out right now. There are already industry pundits who are wondering if, almost exactly a year after Steve Jobs' death, Apple is beginning to falter. Note that the stock is down to $600/share, which is about a hundred less than it was worth just a couple of months ago.

I'd like to see Apple do well, and I think they still have some very smart people there, but I'm dismayed at some of their recent moves in hardware and software. In particular, I wish they would make a statement that would commit them to the pro desktop computer market (which would mean a lot to editors, effects people, graphic artists, and sound mixers around the world), and I wish they had priced the iPad Mini more aggressively. And I'm still bummed out that they don't double the amount of RAM in all iPod and iPhone products for relatively the same price as last year's models.

I have no doubt that the upcoming podcast of TWiT (This Week in Technology, hosted by longtime Apple observer Leo Laporte, and with critics like John Dvorak) will cover this in great detail:

This is a thoroughly professional, very stimulating discussion of a lot of different opinions -- both pro and con. Their corresponding Mac podcast, MacBreak Weekly, is also very entertaining, and features noted Chicago Sun-Times columnist Andy Ihnatko discussing the executive upheaval in "Cook Cleans House":

Update: and here's a link from CNN as to why Scott Forstall was forced out...
