Brian Milliken
Thought it might be interesting to share the extents we all go to to minimize crew and actors footsteps etc.

studiomprd
while the initial image looked like a place that locations would also call for floor protection, (often layout board) the second image suggests you are working on a show with an excellent sensibility for the full range of production values, the kind of shows we would all like to be working on... they are becoming a bit fewer, and further in-between.... cheers! Jeff Babb
I'm surprised camera was okay with carpet under the track.
studiomprd
" carpet under the track. " one of the reasons I suspected 'floor protection' was also a factor...
old school
Every location I go to these days has been carpeted before we get there and we/they/someone pulls out the carpets in frame. In commercial world it is for floor protection 1st, sound treatment 2nd 3rd or 4th. Much better these days than when it was just lay out board. chrisnewton
lucky you Brian. nice job. Who provides and lays the carpets? usually locations dept. on shoots I work on.
Brian Milliken
We do, all you see and more are carried in my Medium wheel based sprinter, we really need a 4th man to help manage the days like the ones in the photos, as we end up shattered at the end of the day with all that is involved working like this. Brian Milliken
But of course we do not have one....
studiomprd
" In commercial world it is for floor protection 1st, sound treatment 2nd " also on a lot of other projects using locations that insist, and thus it is a locations issue, and locations provides the extra person-power... either way, more carpet is a good thing... Brian Milliken
When floor protection is required in the UK by Locations dept. a corrugated plastic is put down, it is called Arratex, it is NOT sound friendly.
studiomprd
" a corrugated plastic is put down " yuk... I'd have a friendly chat with "locations", maybe we can solve 2 problems at the same time...

Mark Orusa
Thanks for sharing the pics Brian. I love a production that uses carpets like that. And I enjoy that show too, despite it's soap opera tendencies. Mark O.

Simon Hayes
It isn't the show that uses the carpets- it is Brian. He supplies them, his crew lay them fast and take them up even quicker and it is him that is saving Production a fortune in ADR and preserving the original performances. Respect Brian!
