VASI
Day by day the rates for sound mixers, sound recordists it's goes down. No good movement from Sound Devices and Zaxcom. Now for 788T SSD is at $6,649 (that mean for me over 6.000 euros) is to dream to have this recorder when the daily rate for motion pictures and film here in Greece is at 160 euros. And I don't have the choice of rental.
Chris Campion
its just for US dealers isn't it?
OmahaAudio
Of course that won't have any effect on in-stock items as those were bought from SD before the price rises, right?
AudioSheik
This is US pricing only. Anything you buy starting today, whether it is in stock with the dealer or not is subject to the new price changes. Please remember that 7 series price changes do not go up until January 1. This is the first price increase that Sound Devices has had in something like seven years.

Looks like 15%... that's good news for anybody wanting to sell their own SD gear... that minty 552 just went up $300 in value.

Richard Ragon
Meanwhile.. The price of the RED and other digital cameras drop. I have to sit in my office each day, and explain to some newb producer (who just picked up a RED for nothing) why I can't work for free each and every day. Awesome. -Richard
bmfsnd
Unless Zaxcom also hikes up their prices by the end of the year, there goes the competition. Meanwhile.. The price of the RED and other digital cameras drop. It's very sad. The DIT on a recent set I was on owns a ONE, which has practically lost its worth altogether. Chris Campion
Its not that bad, Do you fancy paying what we've been paying in the UK? 552 £2675 = $4272 744t £3549 = $5689 788t (160g) £5010 = $8030 664 is £3900 ($6250) No, didn't think so. geordi
Boo on you, Sound Devices! What about this economy justifies a price increase for existing technology, PLUS increasing the prices on VERY legacy items like the 744? Is there some new functionality available, such as a 6-track recording on the 744... Or maybe a built-in espresso spout? $500 extra for the 644... Makes me a sad panda. OmahaAudio
Anything you buy starting today, whether it is in stock with the dealer or not is subject to the new price changes. I've never understood the logic behind that. If a retailer has ordered, received and paid for a piece of equipment (or a roll of film, etc.) at the old price then why does a new price increase have an effect on that in-stock item? Shouldn't the increase start to take effect, at the retail level, on items received and paid for after the date of the increase?

Yeah i agree, most of these machines have been around for years and years?? what is their point in raising their prices? It should be the other way around! They are shooting themselves in the foot big time here
MatthewFreedAudio
Manufacturing and materials costs rise over time. Labor rates increase at the manufacturing level. Shipping costs increase. A lot of expenses increase which is why the purchase price must increase at some point. This stuff is business 101. RPSharman
Prices have been fair and competitive, given the relative lack of comparable products for many years. Zaxcom was expensive when it jumped in the market, and everything else was simply... something else. Prices go up.
Steve Joachim
The boys in Reedsberg have held the line on pricing pretty well over the years. Most manufacturers will increase pricing to dealers 3-5% each year. SD has held their pricing down for the past several years and just did the increases all at once.To be clear, If you already have an order in for, a 664 for example, the pricing will not change. However, orders placed from today on, will reflect the new pricing. The silver lining in all of this is that SD has also increased the manufacturers warranty on it's products from one year to two years at the same time so, there is some added value there. Max Hirtenstein
that's jacked up, literally. but they sound 15% better right?
RadoStefanov
I wonder if people still buy 702t 722 and 744t...
soundslikejustin
I wonder if people still buy 702t 722 and 744t... I doubt they'd still be manufacturing them if people weren't.
old school
They are a fine American company. They make a quality line of products. I'm sure they have legit reasons for the price increase. Maybe the low ballers out there will now increase their rental rates instead of giving it away. I doubt it but I can hope. fatfatjames
If we do not want the extended warranty can we get a lower price? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Tyler Faison
Heck, resell prices just went up, too. It's a good move all around IMHO.
frankaudio
This would be an easier pill to swallow if they had upgraded their products line as well.
