I just finished a review on this bag as well and it's on Gotham Sound's web site. I also believe they have them in stock now too. Check it out!

Tom, thanks for the informative review on the Petrol 617.

Finally got my 664 and trying decide what I need from a bag, and your review certainly  helps.

Wish the video in beginning of thread was still around.

Thanks Chris.  Get in touch with Christina at Gotham Sound, I believe she has (or had) some in stock and you could go get your hands on one.  Cheers and best of luck.

ID perhaps, press crap (although usually larger and worn around neck). Personally, I put my business card in there. Just pops open, outer edge is just a shell that snaps around the edge.

I got one of these Petrol bags and definitely prefer it to the one Portabrace makes.

It is just like the 614 only bigger and it has more room for the extra things we all need

on the job for Lav placement. I have been using on a number of jobs and it is a well made

bag.

Is anyone else having a difficult time getting to the CF/SD card door with the Petrol 617?

Tom, I read your article and it was great but trying to figure out how you have it laid out where the door is accessible.  Also, trying to find a sweet spot for the BDS.  I like where you had it but didn't like it hitting the 664.  I have never owned a petrol, I've had the same Porta-Brace AO-1.5 for the last 9 years so I guess I am used to that layout.

I don't have any difficulty getting the card door open, but I do have a hard time grabbing the CF card with the TC Lemo still plugged in. I have the CL-6 divider panel between the 664 and the lectro's and BDS and the BDS is clipped to the 4th (right most) elastic strap attached to the front wall of the main compartment.  The far side of the divider panel sits between the BDS and the 664 body and sometimes the top of the BDS does touch the mixer; I might add a piece of moleskin or something, but it doesn't concern me now.

If you have a keyboard connected, you can't open the card door. I guess this isn't a big deal, but I kept a wireless keyboard connected at all times for all kinds of data entry (and hot keys, that the 664 doesn't have) to the 788.

I've been a little disappointed that the Petrol 617 does not have as much "storage" space compared to the PS602. Additionally it does not have any handles like the other Petrol bags and is more of a "bag" and less "boxy". As a results when you set it down, it often tips over.

All those things considered, I still feel it is the best option out there.

I just picked up my 617 bag from my local cobbler. That's right. Cobbler is not just a desert. Anyway I had him add 2 more wireless pouch "brackets" on the front ends of the bag using the Petrol PS604 kits. I thinks with those additional pockets, I'll be content.

Interestingly, he told me that nowadays he does more special "heavy duty" sewing projects for people than he does shoe repair. Most shoes currently made (at least that the average joe can afford) are not repairable.

Does anybody know if there's a estimate one when more of these will be available?

I don't feel like cutting my PS601 open to fit it that way, and keeping the 664 in its white box is becoming depressing.
