Richard Lightstone, CAS
I just discovered this fabulous iPad app, V-Control Pro from Neyrinck and it's only $50. Apologies if this has already been covered here. I can open any Pro Tools Session and control it from my iPad, adjust individual channels, groups and more. I'm really loving it. http://youtu.be/978LhiLqqQI

old school
Nice find. I can certainly use this app in my home studio. And I can see it on set as well for playback. CrewC
Richard Lightstone, CAS
Crew, I've been playing with it for two days now. The ability to do all this from your iPad, and make changes on the fly remotely really is a bonus. It took me a while to finally setup the mac and pro tools to "see" the iPad. The site's support group got me the answers. Once it's setup the iPad and Pro tools talk with out any lag time at all. http://www.neyrinck.com/v-control-pro A pretty fantastic application! old school
How is editing with it Richard? I do a lot of editing but I don't really need to be mobile doing that but.... it would be nice. Really cool app for the iPad. CrewC
Richard Lightstone, CAS
For me, when I do playback, I foresee it as an easy tool to walk up to the Director at the Village and play the track, find cues, audition, without waiting for him/her to come over to my cart. The software has an "Edit Panel" window, that has a lot of features. You can Auto Write: Volume, Pan, Send Volume, toggle a channel plug-in. Bring up Tools: Trim, Zoom, Select, Scrub, Grab, Pencil. You can set up to 8 Memory Locations and much more. There is also a "KeyPad" window. The advantage here, is it frees you up from the keyboard commands and mouse - however I've seen many who are wickedly fast with those tools. I have yet do do much editing with it, but I'll dive into that in a few days. The software is so inexpensive, why not buy it and play. I think you'll be surprised at how well it will fit your needs. old school
I'm going to buy it after I buy an iPad. Been a desk top n laptop user for many years but now I see an app that will make my life easier on an ipad at work and in my studio. Thanks for the info. Richard Lightstone, CAS
Crew, great, now maybe this is the impetus to buy one. Now I'll need a new iPad Mini to run MovieSlate, so I can use my "big" iPad for V-Control. Not a bad problem to have.
Alistair Duff
I really like the new Mackie 16 channel board that uses an Ipad as the only control surface..you can mix from anywhere in WiFi range. I don't think I want to trust it in a live situation though but its cool. Alistair
johndiemer
+1 Love this app for when I'm doing foley/sfx recording in the booth
Bondelev
I reviewed the app for the CAS Quarterly last year. You can download the issue here: http://cinemaaudiosociety.org/pdf/CAS%20Winter2012.pdf/

robo
Does this work with Boom Recorder? Don't know about Boom Recorder but it's rock solid with Metric Halo's MIO Console 5.
Henchman
Thanks for reminding me about this app and the numerical pad. I already have the app, mount haven't used it for awhile. But I have been filling in on some ADR recording at work , and the setup in the smaller room isn't that great ergonomic wise. Typing in the numbers for the cues is a hassle. And I was just about to buy a keypad. I'll try V-Controls first. See how that goes.
John Maskew
I use this w/ my iPad Mini for playback here in Atlanta. Just like mentioned before, it allows me to walk on set w/ AD and basically be anywhere on set. Free version is awesome, paid version is definitely worth every penny! Ze Frias
Is there any discernible delay between the V-Control commands and the response action in the computer?
Bondelev
The delay is typical for a wifi connection. Rarely is it noticeable.
Richard Lightstone, CAS
The app certainly is perfect for playback previews on film sets. I like the ability to go to the marker points and fine tune them with a Director wherever he/she is.
