solowiej
I imagine this topic has come up before, but I have not been able to find any information on it. I'm considering swapping one of my lectro bodypack tx units for a HM tx. That way with the dual receiver, I can have one lav and one boom feeding straight to camera for a bare-bones in-camera mix. I know, not ideal. But here's the question: Can the HM also sport a lav mic? It will feed 5v phantom, will receive mic level from an analog xlr... I know the box is large and heavy for body-mounting, but this trick might give me more flexibility as both a boom tx and optional second lav. I'd like to know if there are any unforeseen reasons not to count on the HM working with a lav in a backup situation... Thanks for any insights! studiomprd
of course you could buy the Plug-on as an additional TX... or use the COS-11 with its Sanken XLR-powering module... or, of course, use the Lectro accessory...

You can leave your lavaliere wired for a belt pack and use this adapter to convert to an HM plug on. http://www.lectrosonics.com/33-MCA5X/View-details.html You can also wire the lavaliere directly to an XLR but that is less flexible, though a little shorter. ChrisH
Much better solution would be to get a phantom power supply (denecke makes a good one) and an mc-35 cable to get into your existing body pack transmitter. That way you still have two body packs and the option to use one as a boom transmitter.

solowiej
Right, I've thought a lot about whether to go this route. The big issue is too much bulk and weight with a sloppy banded-together pair of devices on the end of my mic. Occasionally it's not on a boom but actually mounted on-camera (~shudder~) while the lav gets up close (OMB documentary work). So strapping both the power supply and SMV to the back of a mic would be a significant drag, relative to occasionally using the HM as a Lav tx. Much better solution would be to get a phantom power supply (denecke makes a good one) and an mc-35 cable to get into your existing body pack transmitter. That way you still have two body packs and the option to use one as a boom transmitter.
