Richard Lightstone, CAS
Here is what Variety says: "The Writers Guild of America has reached a tentative deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. WGA West president Patric Verrone and WGA East president Michael Winship sent out an email to members at 3 a.m. Saturday alerting writers that a deal has been made that “protects a future in which the Internet becomes the primary means of both content creation and delivery.†Here is a link to the details: http://www.wga.org/contract_07/wga_tent_summary.pdf The Writers Guild East membership meets today at 2PM EST and the WGA West members meet at 7PM PT today to discuss the fine points. Let's hope they love it and then the WGA Board can vote to end the strike! Richard Lightstone, CAS
Richard Lightstone, CAS
So the WGA Board could have decided tomorrow to have the writers return to work Monday, pending ratification. Instead they will have a 48 hour vote - if the membership votes to accept the new contract then the strike could be over on Tuesday. Bartek
Sounds like this thing will get settled in the not too distant future. Now how about that SAG strike due for the summer?

Joshua Anderson
There's been a steady amount of news and updates over at deadlinehollywooddaily.com If you dig down a little, there was some recent mention of how this tentative WGA deal and a prospective SAG deal may be related by pattern bargaining / favored nation clauses. Hopefully, with an end to the WGA strike, the AMPTP negotiators can start talking with SAG now and get something together in advance (like they did with the DGA). Richard Lightstone, CAS
Here's a piece of nostalgia. A T-shirt I got after the WGA strike of 1988. Any one ready to design the 2007/08 version? Richard Lightstone,CAS
