Den Nic
Hey guys, I am having trouble with my 416 as it seems to not be producing normal levels that I am used to. Signal chain is simple 416 via XLR into 302 mixer. I am thinking it might have been water damage from a shoot I did last week, has anybody experienced low levels due to water? I am swapping out the mic and XLR shortly but figured I'd post here in the mean time. Also I have double checked all the settings in the side of the 302. Thanks guys
Den Nic
It also sound really really thin and has no low end on playback. I am for sure swapping out the mic, but more wondering if this is a water problem and if anyone has experienced this before (maybe with other mics?) jason porter
If you are plugged into input 2, check the phase switch. Try all 3 inputs. Triple check the mic/line switches, they can get "blocked" from making full contact by debris, like cookie crumbs
jason porter
Sounds like the mic isn't getting enough voltage. Do you have an external power supply?
Den Nic
I am feeding it from the sound devices 302 mix, which is set to 48V and phantom power is on. Batteries are fresh in the
John Blankenship
Double check that 48v switch. It can get bumped easily and cause just what you're experiencing.
studiomprd
" I am thinking it might have been water damage from a shoot I did last week " maybe... CRAP happens it may need to get fixed.
cmassey
Cookie crumbs??? That's why I still have the plastic covers on my 411A's....
Den Nic
Never mind guys, it was a bad cable. Didn't have one handy to swap out (the one time I don't!) but it's all good now
Jon Gilbert
I've never been on a job without carrying a spare XLR, I guess I never will.
studiomprd
" it was a bad cable " troubleshooting 101 ( just like RTFM, supposed to be done before crying "wolf" " I've never been on a job without carrying a spare XLR, " that also sounds extremely basic. (CRAP happens to cables even more often than to mic's) Edited March 16, 2013 by studiomprd
Jon Gilbert
It's a bad day when someone doesn't even check the cable before posting on a forum when they have a problem. Trouble shooting sorts the men from the boys, those worth the rate from those best left at home.
Den Nic
Like I said, the one time I didn't have a cable, and was about an hour away from being able to get one. Resolved it once I got my equipment back via normal troubl-shooting methods, but for the time being I was exhausting all options trying to get it solved. Thanks Anyways guys, all went well in the end

" I was exhausting all options trying to get it solved. " what, exactly, did you think we could do ??
