Philip Perkins
Today w/ 2 Alexas, firmware v7. @ Prep DIT set the cameras up to record the L input to both the right and left channels (please--stop helping me!). After being momentarily confused I got into the menus and changed the settings for the R channel to record the R input. But on both cams it only SORT OF made the change. The Right channel was hearing the R input audio, but also a lot of L channel audio as well, at a lower level. The L channels were fine. BOTH cameras did this until we rebooted them, and then they were fine--correct channel assigns without changing any settings. philp
Marc Wielage
Doh! I didn't know it had that feature! I've definitely seen the Red Epic go stupid with audio inputs until we either jiggled the input cable and/or rebooted the camera. Usually, the Alexa is more together. Weird. It never occurred to me that you could dial in the same input to two different channels! Good to know -- most of the time, I'm just feeding a mono scratch track (which has occasionally become the "real" track on a couple of occasions). John Blankenship
I didn't know you had to reboot after you make the selections. That's good to know.
Jeff Wexler
Love the title, Philip, "Alexa Audio Ass-Bite", helps keep a little humor in this recurring and rather unfortunate topic of the woeful inadequacies of all the cameras out there (even the Alexa). Thanks for the heads up.
studiomprd
" the woeful inadequacies " some of them, like this one, are mere quirks.
Marc Wielage
Oh, I've experienced ass-bite with many cameras, at least when it comes to sound. If I didn't know any better, I would say that sound is at or near the bottom of the priority list from most camera manufacturers. Which reminds me about Red's new announcement about a new "quieter" fan mode, which is welcome news.
chriskellett
I have noticed a simular issue with the headphone output selection menu, when the Ch L is selected on some of the units it changes the outputs to the Ch R on the outputs. I had not thought about a reboot to see if it corrects this, good idea.
stevegrider
Yet another reminder that we work with computers that capture images and sounds, and not mechanical devices with linear functions. Every now and again, computers of all kinds get stupid and need to be rebooted. Kind of like me....
