Ken Wilkinson
Have a RED shoot coming up. Is this thing necessary? can I just wire up some cables?
Zack
Just gives you an XLR instead of the 3.5mm. Still mic level though if you're referring to an Epic or Scarlet.
Ken Wilkinson
it's just an expensive xlr to mini adapter?
Zack
It made running sound to the cameras much easier since most mixers can attenuate the outputs to the needed signal level. Many ways to skin a cat, this was one.
gpiegari
What's great about it is it's recognized as a necessary accessory for the RED Epic/Scarlet. Rental houses and owner operators buy and provide them. It's no longer up to the sound dept to research and build a proprietary cable or breakout we hope to never need... Marc Wielage
No, just make the cables That's what I say. A custom-made cable cut to the right length makes the camera department happy, especially with a wireless hop.
