Michael P Clark
I've been quite happy with the Petrol harness. The rig weighs 26 lbs, but feels like 12 when in the harness and about 36 when carrying by hand. I really liked the mixer being further from my belly. Made for easier and faster control of faders. And helped get the RF noise from the 744 further from the Lectro's.
JonMoore
Even though it's been 5 years since this post. I just wanted to thank you for your brilliance on finding that part, Mike! Any word on how much you're selling them for now?
aginzo
I've made my own low profile connectors by using a Neutrik and leaving out the clamp and boot, sealing it all up with epoxy and a plastic hole cover with a small hole drilled for the cable exit. I know this thread is really old but as I was looking for a way to build some low profile XLR right angle cable, I decided to try a test since my solder skills are movie at best. I liked your version that I really thought was simple enough for me to attempt. I think I may have made a great duplicate of your version. By the way thanks for the great tips and direction. I'm excited now to make different versions form some of the great examples on here.
Shastapete
There's also a big thread in the DIY section that covers designs and techniques
Rachel Cameron
Yes, two of the best ones are here: and here: I get stuck in DIY a lot.
Eric Toline
Here's a set of 6 low profile xlr's I made for a mixer to connect into a 664 from 2 years ago
Todd Weaver
Eric, those look a lot like some I made in a pinch on set a while back. We needed the five pin audio inputs for camera for some God aweful reason. I used a hacksaw and filled the connecter with epoxy. It saved the day. Is that something similar? John Blankenship
K-Tek has a new low profile right angle XLR for their boom poles. I'm not sure how soon they're going to be available as a separate item, but that appears to be on the horizon.
