bilagaana
Today I tried to buy a new set of DT48 headphones. I've used the same kind for thirty-five years and now BeyerDynamic has decided to cease production on the finest phones that have been on the market since 1937. Too bad! I guess it's time to go to the box of old ones and cobble together a new pair. Good by old friend.
cmassey
Not a pair on a dealers shelf anywhere? I'm going to have to start looking tomorrow....

All round about the 275 to 300 UKpound mark. Malcolm Davies. A.m.p.s.
Eric Toline
300gbp is $456usd. Expensive hp's to be sure. Eric
old school
Good riddance. RIP DT 48's. Hey before anyone is truly offended, if you love them great, but the years I wore them all I remember is the vice like squeeze to my mellon. Glen Trew
Good riddance, indeed (at least for me and Crew). I used them for many years, and always despised them (please save the lectures about them being flat). I much prefer the Sony 7506.
Freeheel
+1 if you are using 48's, please try a set of 7506's - they sound clearer, have better bass, very similar isolation, are 8 times more comfortable and cost 1/4 of the BeyerDynamics... Cheers, Brent Calkin
soundslikejustin
Sony 7506...right?
Peter Mega
Yep, I'm pretty sure they mean 7506's. Agreed Crew, the DT48 are head crushers. Not pleasant at all.
Jon Gilbert
DT48s were the first headphones I used when I started working. It was hate at first squeeze. I still have a pair somewhere, I hope I never find them! I'm an Ultrasone user now, Pro750s, very much to my taste, comfortable and I know I can trust what I hear. soundmanjohn
I had a pair for a long time, almost indestructible, but hugely uncomfortable as others have said. They were stolen many years ago whilst I was doing a session in the House Of Commons (part of our government buildings here in the UK) after I'd been thoroughly vetted as I went in and all my kit checked for weapons, etc. When I told the in-house police about the theft, the reply was: "What did you expect? This place is full of the biggest bunch of crooks in the country." Subsequent events have proved that this was a very much a correct assessment. I use the Sonys now, with Beyer velour ear pads, which helps considerably. Regards, John Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Jeff Wexler
Sony 7506...right? I corrected it for them. -jw

bilagaana
Thanks for all your condolences. I, too, have suffered the pinched head and living in Florida's incessant humidity would have to sop the sweat out of them every 15 minutes until I made cloth covers for them, then on to the store bought kind. The Sony's are OK but not the same. Thanks for the tips.
jackdrobin
DT48's! On a chill winter morning or the depths of summer....not what you want on your ears! But you could drive a tank over them!
mikewest
Pinched head yeah! Also not the best low end response I switched to HD-25 in 1992 and have gone through at least 6 pairs Marvellous! mike
chris_bollard
They used to always make my ears hurt! Squashed! And sounded like they felt after they had been on for 8 hours
Tom Maloney
Guess this is why dealers have an abundance of ear pads , selling for use with 7506s I used to wear these headphones years ago working for a telco. Used with a ultrasonic leak detector, by the end of the day with the constant noise of the detector and the head vice grip made for a hurting head day We used the detector for locating leaks in aerial cables, the only way I can describe the noise is like you listen to steady pink noise or static

Karl Wasserman
I have a couple of extra pairs I could let go. One's wired for mono, but you could put a stereo connector on it... I was going to keep em for decoration in the workshop, but PM me with an offer.
David Lezynski
But they did look like official TechGeekReallySpecial headphones that marked us as professional. My face has been puckered ever since. Bye
Jason A
I switched to the 1350s a couple years ago and have been extremely happy. Super comfortable, great isolation, good build. http://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/shop/hah/headphones-and-headsets/djs/dt-1350.html
Philip Perkins
I bought a pair when I first started doing sound. The first day I used them I figured that mine were either defective or I'd bought a "size very small" pair by mistake. I didn't like the sound and I really didn't like the headaches they induced. I thought that the reason professionals used them was at least in part due to their field serviceability (ie you could buy parts and fix them yourself), but for the life of me I never figured out why so many soundies like them. My long-time boom op, Gary "The Immutable" Dowling, would use nothing else--hated my Sonys and Senns, so go figure. philp
