cory
Curious to know what people's go-to mixer for doc situations where you're getting upwards of 100F and well below 32F on a regular basis is. How bout recorders?
Jesse Flaitz
My 302 has never had a problem being used in 100+ or single digits temperatures.

MatthewFreedAudio
I've used both Sound Devices and Zaxcom mixers and recorders in temperatures ranging from 120 Fahrenheit down to negative 35 (yup, -35). Both company provide solid gear that works in extreme temperatures. LCD screens tend to be a bit sluggish in extreme cold and all the gear radiates additional heat. I took a heat sensing gun to my Zaxcom Fusion 12 when the air temperature was 110 and the recorder showed 136 degrees and it was operating just fine. For a small recorder and/or mixer I would highly recommend a SD302 or MixPre-D or a Zaxcom Nomad (especially if you also need a recorder) Production Sound Mixing for Television, Film, and Commercials. www.matthewfreed.com
Jack Norflus
Zaxcom's Nomad has been working well in both extreem hot and cold temperatures. Even though Maxx hasn't had the same extensive testing as Nomad it should hold up as well.
JonG
My 788T SSD has worked well in over 120F and -20F with zero problems
Cyril Bourseaux
As far as I can tell 664 is working fine from -10F to +90F all day long.
RadoStefanov
Nomad 120f 12 hours a day no problem
johnpaul215
12 hours at 120F? So it'll keep recording when we drop dead. Great!

Freeheel
I've had my Sound Devices 442 down to -50° C. Worked fine. Try uncoiling a cable at that temperature though... Cheers, Brent Calkin
Rick Reineke
Sound Devices 302. In the late 80s and 90s, prior to the 302, I had an FP32 that survived all kinds of extreme temperatures and physical abuse.
Jack Norflus
I had a producer dump an entire cup of hot coffee into my FP32A and other than a cloudy meter the mixer never missed a beat till the day I retired it.

Cheers, Brent Calkin Uncoiling is fine just do it quickly when you get out of your vehicle. Problem is after they are out they don't want to coil back up. Never done a -50 but did have to coil a bunch of ccu cables after a multi-cam shoot in what was probably -20 or -30F felt like I was breaking kindling the entire way until we got them in sections short enough to melt in the truck. Freeheel
Had to do the uncoil once a day, when leaving the house, since the "vehicle" was a snowmobile. Cheers, Brent Calkin
ernesto of the north
I don't have any hesitations about mixer functions in temperature extremes but has anyone experienced any TC. . .um, inconsistencies with SD 7xx series in high temperatures? RadoStefanov
I am going in the tunnels underneath lake mead tomorrow. some places it gets 130f 100% humidity. Will see how my max holds up...
hobosoundguy
Would caution against the sd 664 in the heat. Have had mine and reports from other guys that theirs freeze up. Audio still sounds ok but meters freeze and have to pull all batteries to reset. Nothing like a 788 on a cold night to warm your hands on I find. dominiquegreffard
Extreme temperatures and hard disks are often not a good match because of their physical nature. Ssd and flash card memory type should be more robust. Also some tools could experience problems when going in and out of the cold from condensation building in. When coming back inside from filming in subzero temperatures i leave my nomad on for a bit so heat get rid of the humidity building in. I feel it s the right thing to do. Does that make sense? Also for mics i like to let them dry outside of their case before storing them. My .
RadoStefanov
Maxx and Nomad are flawless in the heat. Even in 100% humidity and over 120f.
