aristotle_kumpis
This is why even small productions need to obtain film permits. http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2013/08/01/officer-nearly-fires-on-student-crew-filming-robbery-scene/

cmgoodin
So I guess real robbers just need to paint the tips of their real guns orange and the cops will ignore them. thinking they are just toy guns. That or just file a film permit on the place they are going to rob.
David Waelder
There was a movie made with that as the premise. The movie (the one within the movie) was just a distraction for an actual (movie) robbery carried out by the principals. Sorry for all the hedging but it's sort of a Russian doll situation.I can't think of the title right now. David
Marc Wielage
You know, it might be possible to go in during post and turn the orange gun tips to black as color-correction, assuming they're the day-glo orange tips I've seen before. I'd shoot a test first and make sure it works, then go for it. That's unless you run into bad guys who put day-glo orange tips on real guns... studiomprd
as to the topic of this post: obtaining a permit may not apply, as the production was entirely contained on/in private property. additionally, obtaining filming permits does not necessarily involve police notification of the filming. dfisk
I would imagine seeing a video camera or two and maybe a sound person (if they are lucky) were the giveaway that this was a small production shoot. Good thing the officers had the brains to assess the situation. Had this been NYC or Chicago those students would probably be dead.

VASI
" It's a gub. " no, no... that's an 'n', not a 'b', look at it again... Eric come here. He say it's an "n", not a "b". It's a gub. "b" with more power on lips.
