Ju Griz
I know it sounds ridiculous, but I always have a bit of shamwow with me on set for situations like this. Of course I never use it directly on talent, but the absorbency is awesome and undoubtedly has saved many a mic from an early retirement. Ju Griz
Don't you mean, I ALWAYS HAVE A BIT OF SHAMWOW WITH ME!!!!! ? ps- nice idea. I'm still laughing quite hard at this. I just get a lot of crap from other crew members about it... until it proves its usefulness. lol.
Whit Norris
We had issues a few years ago in a tropical environment on a picture with sweaty actors and the COSS-11's would fill with sweat and spritz after a while in a scene. We tried various product to wrap around the mic to absorb the water. We ended up with a strip of SHAMWOW around the mic just below the capsule. Works great! It is always in my kit! Whit Norris
Maybe to a little more specific. They were male actors wearing fairly tight t shirts and Under Armor type wear (very tight fitting) so we had to attach the mics directly to the skin. There were no other real options. David Lipka
To SonicBoomPole: YES i think they sound great, but the best microphone is the one which is most adapted to a situation. The VT506 for example is really good if hidden under fabric. You have to try one day The price is also "friendly"
SonicBoomPole
@Dave Thanks for the advice. Yet another viable solution. I'll keep an eye out for one of these to test.
jitter
In this situation if you clean the skin with some make up removal liquid or medical alcohol and place a piece of your preferred tape, and then place the mic rig on top of that tape it will last longer. Also helps if you turn the mic upside down and create some sweat barriers with a thin fabric elastic band(the same used in theatre head mount rigs), applying knots of that along the mic cable prevents sweat coming straight to the capsule. PS: once in a live theatre show, an actor was really heavy on cocaine and he sweated a lot, our skin colored sennheiser MKE's turned green after 6 weeks! mikewest
Countryman B3 and B6 are the solution Did a lot of work in tropical countries with Trams but: They were OK when dried out but noisy when wet with moisture again mike
