Matt Mayer
And the change/update list: New *Monophonic Broadcast WAV file support, up to 10-track to two cards, three second pre-roll maximum. LCD Daylight Display Mode - a daylight-specific color scheme for improved readability in sunlight. New solid bar metering option for further improved readability in direct sunlight. Additional Front Panel button shortcuts for: - LCD Daylight Display Mode (HP + SELECT encoders). - Phrase list (HP + RTN B/C) for fast entry of notes. - Activating the alternating Tone mode (SELECT + TONE). If Tone Mode is set to Continuous in the menu, then (SELECT + TONE) activates L-Ident tone. Track Names in Meters options (without color gradient/ramp). Selectable for either right-side or left side display. When formatted in the 664, SD cards 64 GB and larger are now automatically formatted as ExFAT (in accordance with the SD Association's recommendation). All CF cards and lower capacity SD cards remain FAT32. Headphone Volume or Headphone Preset default option. Sets the HP encoder to operate as headphone level or to select HP presets when rotated. Pressing the Headphone encoder momentarily activates the alternative function. *Note: If a card not optimized for multi-channel monophonic file recording is used or if the monophonic 10 track limit is exceeded, a warning message is displayed on the LCD when starting a recording. Polyphonic mode or reducing track count is reccomended. Changes Track and Scene names - maximum number of entries increased to 70. If exceeded, a pop-up message appears. Editing a track name from the channel screen now edits the current track name instead of generating a new name. This reduces the likelihood of exceeding the number of allowable (70) track names. Fixes Fixed - rare issue where record beeps would be replaced by noise, resulting in corrupted recording. Fixed - issue where Return monitoring would change among mono, stereo, or MS depending on the Headphone selection. Now Return L goes to Headphone-Left and Return R goes to Headphone-Right. Current take's track name edits were not applied to the next take when tracks are disarmed. File renaming bug fixes. Numerous memory card performance improvements. Additional bug fixes and system improvements.

Jeff Wexler
Wow! Pretty impressive list of updates. Even though I don't use the 664 I am happy to see that Sound Devices could come up with some solutions for screen readability. We just have to learn to be patient. I remember with the Deva (which was the first recorder I used that so heavily relied on a screen for its operation) it was not so easy to see in direct sunlight. A similar fix, a high contrast monochrome display, helped a lot. Later, with Nomad, the fix that Zaxcom came up with really improved the readability. All of this makes me long for the good old days where we had NO menus to deal with, no screen we had to be able to decipher --- just one big analog mechanical meter and mechanical indicators for speed and sync. (well, actually, 2 needles to watch with the Stereo Nagra)
Matt Radlauer
This update is awesome!! And makes this mixer that much greater! I really appreciate being able to place track names on the right..I generally work with them off all together and forget to name them. THIS will help me remember to name them properly because they will always be on! The daylight screen update is perfect. I live in AZ, its bright as EFF here! lol Overall a great update..I look forward to more enhancements down the road! Thanks SD!!
soundtrane
< mechanical indicators for speed and sync> that was indeed a stroke of genius... simple and most effective a way to draw attention when needed...
Philip Perkins
Mega thanks for the 664 update, mono files and the new screen are a big deal to me. Re Nagra IV-S modulometer--it also had a great setting that showed you stereo phase! philp
Stuart
Glad to have the daylight viewable screen mode. I'll have to wait until we next have some sunshine in the UK to find out if it's any good. Probably next year then...
