SoundInTexas
Hey all, I've had sound devices stuff for years. I just tried to update to 1.05 and now my 664 won't boot. When I try, a yellow light just comes on the top right. While verifying, it went 100%. While applying update, it went to 98% and quit, trying 3 additional times. It had a dialog that said it failed and to press okay. I did, and now its dead. Won't boot. I've tried leaving the batteries out for a while, still nothing. ?? DWsoundservice
If your 664 will continue to attempt t upload 1.05, trying downloading it again from the SD website. It is possible that something happened during your first download and your file has become corrupt. If that fails, try downloading and installing v1.04 to see if your unit will accept that version. mikewest
Re-downloaded and un-zipped to the CF Tried to update again 664 says "No *.prog file found or selected" ?? mike
Matt Radlauer
The update has to be in the root of your card.. 664 will not find it if its in a folder.
edward chick
I just did the upgrade a few hours ago. No problems copying to a formatted SD card. I don't think you are supposed to unzip the the file per Sound Devices instructions. You are just supposed to copy the .prg file to root level of your formatted card. DWsoundservice
Make sure that your SD or CF card is formatted as a FAT32 volume. Then per Sound devices instructions. "From the zip archive, extract the file within named 664_1.05.prg file. Copy this .prg file to the root level of a SD or CF memory card." Michiel
@Texasnoise: Oeh that s*cks... Try the Sound Devices Forum. The update went well here, too. Can you remember from which firmware version you did the update?

Matt Mayer
The PIXLoader software (PC Only) can also be used for the 664: http://www.sounddevices.com/download/pix_firmware/PIX_Loader_1.0_Install.zip Contact support on Monday and they will be able to tell you the key sequence to enable the USB to re-flash the 664. Blas Kisic
Downloaded and installed in a few minutes (with just the AA batteries powering it, even.) No issues. Kinda excited with the "daylight" screen mode - it was one of my pet peeves… BK
Matt Mayer
No need to send it in. PIXLoader can re-flash the firmware on the 664. Hopefully Tech Support has already sent this to you: http://www.sounddevices.com/notes/recorders/firmware/updating-664-firmware-with-the-pix-loader-utility/

mikewest
Hi Brian Just bought a SanDisk SD 16g Extreme that the cheaper of my card readers did not identify. Put it in the 664 and formatted no problems Normally I use the same brand CF but thought a backup would be wise Mike
BVS
Hi Mike, I bought a San Disk 16g ultra SD which works fine too.... the problem was the old CF reader which I had with a Nikon camera from a few years back... so I bought a Dick Smith Multi card reader for $50 and its all good now. Cheers, Brian
