cinetj
Is the sanken CSS-5 response, when used in mono mode, equal to a CS3-e? I'm looking for a mid-side solution and a more directional shotgun at the same time (to replace my 416). Would the CSS-5 serve both purposes? jason porter
No, and it is very heavy.

Jaymz
Not as directional, as can be seen... CS-3e - http://www.sanken-mic.com/upload/prd/img/img.php?photo=1001500_pola_01.jpg&type=freq CSS-5 - http://www.sanken-mic.com/upload/prd/img/img.php?photo=1001600_pola_01.jpg&type=freq
mikewest
The CSS-5 in a mono mode is dissapointing. A very wide cardioide and with no built in bass cut, very sensitive to handling for true boom operation. As an XY stereo mike - well its amazing. CS-3e and CS-1 are amazing too. mike
cinetj
Thank you for the replies. If I can't get the double package, I still want a shotgun-mid-side solution. That would be nice in a documentary where I could pass from mono to stereo in a blink of a eye. Having already a 416, adding this to package may be a solution: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/629674-REG/Ambient_Recording_ATE208_SET_ATE_208_SET_Emesser.html. And, also, if get a 418, would this emulate the sound of a 416 regarding the mid capsule? Too heavy and too clumsy?
