Matt Mayer
Heard this on the radio yesterday. Had to search for it since it didn't get much play in the Chicago papers: http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2013/09/26/camcorder-battery-causes-fire-aboard-stl-bound-airliner/ The article mentions a "camcorder battery". Hoping that means some cheap consumer battery vs. something we might use. Not mentioned in the article, but heard in the radio report was the fact that the crew put the battery in a bucket of ice-water. Wonder if they are trained to do that, or it was just instinct on their part. Water wouldn't help with the fire, but maybe it would cool the cells down below the point of thermal run-away.
