Korey Pereira
Doing post on a film and wanted to see if anyone has an forest/wood ambiences from upstate New York they would be willing to share? Can be day or night. I have many generic ambiences that will work fine, but thought it would be fun to use some specific to the area. Thanks! Korey Pereira
bleublancrouge, this is great - thanks for the suggestion!
atheisticmystic
Freesound.org also has some good things in the database. I've found that ambiences are their strong suit, FX not so much. It's a good resource to be familiar with. best
Rick Reineke
I have some atmos on Freesound.org recorded in the upper Hudson Valley region which may work. Search on Freesound, my username: "knufds" I recall another request of Adirondack atmos a year or so ago.
Korey Pereira
atheisticmystic - I have used sound from there before, but always forget about fs.org. Rick, thanks for pointing me towards your sounds on there - I will check them out this evening!
Crussell
What specifically are you needing cover for? I was up in Maine recording this summer.
studiomprd
Maine is way different sounding.
Crussell
It depends... On what it is you're looking for.
Korey Pereira
There is a variety of spaces I am looking to fill. Open fields, wooded areas (light birds), streams (all locations - early morning, mid-day, night). I have plenty of generic wind, blowing grass and water ambi to take care of those types of scenes. It is primarily the wooded shots and night ambi that I feel are the most important to get right (anything with light birds, cicadas, crickets) as those tend to be geographically specific. I will probably be able to use a few from FS.org and still need to reach out to Michael Raphael. Crussell - if you have anything relatively desolate (as far as wildlife, ect), I could use a few gentle wind through trees, blowing grass, night ambi if you are willing to share! Again, I will go generic for anything I can't find region specific as MOST casual viewers won't know the difference. Thanks all!
atheisticmystic
...as MOST casual viewers won't know the difference. I can't remember which director's commentary it was, in which I heard the lament that, there is NO end to how many "experts" will harangue a filmmaker about the regional inaccuracies found in the wildlife component of a sound edit. I want to say it was Mel Gibson on the Braveheart commentary? Do they have any idea how long it took to AUDITION those dozens of files sheesh...lol. Korey Pereira
Hahahaha.... how true is that! Normally I agree and just go with whatever works for the scene - this particular film is almost all bgs + foley w/ light DX/MX. Hence making a BIT more effort that usual to be accurate. Again, thanks for the input!
studiomprd
"Hence making a BIT more effort that usual to be accurate. " probably best you go there and record them yourself... you do have the budget..?
Korey Pereira
I will be getting production sound this week and it looks like production may have actually captured a decent amout while on location. Will have to see what all is there. Yes, if I don't have what I need, a trip up there might be the way to go (if time allows). I also have a friend up that way that might be willing to take a drive for me.
Rick Reineke
Not too many lively bugs up there this time of year. Spring is coming though and with it the ferocious Adirondack black fly, whose favorite meal is a soundie's blood.
sepulchra
Thanks for the kind words! Best, Michael
