stacysound
When I put a USB stick in the slot and try to format it, it goes thru the normal process and then comes up with "unrecognized disk format". If I put a pre formatted USB stick in it will mirror to it just fine. Tried it on 2 different memory sticks, rebooted with it in there…thoughts? soundtrane
imho, the USB drive takes a lot more power than a USB stick... but I don't know the Nomad...
ccsnd
My guess is that there is not software to control a standard usb drive and that all the drivers written are for USB sticks from the usual suspects.
stacysound
Sorry. USB stick is what I'm questioning. Now - will it format a USB stick?
John Blankenship
Sorry. USB stick is what I'm questioning. Now - will it format a USB stick? To use it in the USB port of a Nomad, it's my understanding that you need to format whatever kind of drive, typically a thumb drive, as a FAT32 drive, in a computer first. Wandering Ear
I format in the Nomad when I'm using a USB stick. I always get the Unrecognized disk format error, and I have to restart the Nomad before it will recognize the USB stick after mirror, but it will format it. stacysound
Ah... I'll try that. Thanks "Ear".
John Blankenship
Hmmm... that does seem to work. I thought it was Howie who told me that the USB drive wouldn't do a format (of course, I might have dreamed it). You may wish to call him next week and confirm if there are any issues or not. Wandering Ear
Let me know if he tells you any differently, but this is what I've been doing since USB mirroring was released. So far no issues.
pscottm
i used a USB thumb drive several months ago w no issues but now i can't get it to work. what format does the USB thumb drive need to be in before i can mirror mp3's to it? i'm on a mac which will not format a volume in'FAT32', it only formats in 'MS-DOS (FAT)'. is that the same as FAT32? i'm trying to use a verbatim 8gig thumb drive.. maybe i need a different USB thumb drive, seems like no matter what i do, nomad will not recognize it. i've tried every combination of formatting on computer, formatting in nomad (which always says 'failed' or 'not recognized') and of course it's sunday night and i need mp3s for transcription all day tomorrow. (sigh)
pscottm
ok i switched to a different USB thumb drive and mp3 mirroring is working again.
soundslikejustin
There are some thumb drives that have an additional 'layer' to their structure where they store non-formattable files (such as proprietary data recover or backup software). This may cause Nomad to fail to accept it. (Purely hypothesis, but I've seen it before in other scenarios)
