Richard Lightstone, CAS
Here is a possible solution to those looking for the discontinued and very popular Sennheiser HMD 25's. With thanks to Ryan Coomer of Trew Audio Los Angeles. Sennheiser is now only selling newer designs, but those headsets do not have the same acoustic dynamics of the HD 25's rated from 16 - 22,000Hz. I like my HD 25's and just wanted to add a microphone to accomplish my requirements. The solution was AntLion Audio and their ModMic. http://www.modmic.com/ I got the ModMic 2.3 ($33.95) but they will begin selling newer versions 3.0 and 4.0. They are electret microphones and the solution to power it was the Ambient EMP3.5 48V Electret Adapter. The boom arm can be attached to any type of headset. Here is how it looks. The attachment for the microphone boom arm is in two parts; the headphone attachment part that is a magnet and has a 3M adhesive backing. It's mounting mate which holds the boom arm securely and holds tight to the magnet. Quite ingenious

Philip Perkins
Not clear on how it attaches? Glue? philp
BudRaymond
Thanks Richard. Neat mod. I bought the HME 26 headset and you're right, the frequency response just isn't the same as the 25-II. I use it for insert car work where I need a compact rig, so it serves its purpose there. Constantin
Very interesting find. What do you use this for that you need such a large freq range?
soundtrane
if only they had fixed the cable connection problem on the HD25-1 II... got a hd26 pro, 20-18k... let's see how it goes with this one... at least no cable connection issues on this... -vin
Richard Lightstone, CAS
Constantin, I'm just used to the sound of the HD 25's, just like I got used to the sound of the old Beyer headphones.

Constantin
Constantin, I'm just used to the sound of the HD 25's, just like I got used to the sound of the old Beyer headphones. yes, of course. Sorry, I misunderstood somehow. I thought you were talking about the frequency range of the microphone. Of course, the HD-25's are great! John Blankenship
Thanks, Richard, for the info and link -- looks really promising. O.T. question: Are you now using a Mix8 instead of the Yamaha, or is this a second rig? How do you like working with a Mix8? Thanks. (Sorry for the O.T. folks.) Richard Lightstone, CAS
I only use the Mix 8 on my small cart and car rigs, the Yamaha is still in play on my main cart. The Mix 8 is a convenient control surface allowing me to easily mix multiple sources and access channel trims.

Patrick Wilcox
Just bought a Mod Mic 4.0 for 7506's. I'll report back!
greg sextro
glad to have seen this thread as I've been demo-ing the HD 26 and don't like em (overly bass-y IMO, and pinch my ears/are uncomfortable) would be much happier to mod a pair of sonys myself.
