BVS
Samsung have developed a new solid state drive that is 2.4 times faster than regular hard drives and will be in production this year. http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2008/05/26/1211653918711.html?s_rid=smh:top5 BVS
curleysound
This has me thinking: How long can I hold onto my G4 1.67gb powerbook? It's just expired from Applecare, and while it runs boom recorder like a champ, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until it's going to start to fail. I also wonder how long it will be until these drives are an install option on new laptops, and when will they cost less than their weight in gold? curleysound
Will the 744t be compatible with these?
Marc Wielage
Just read a story on MacRumors which says that SSD drives may use more power than conventional hard drives under certain circumstances. The story is here: http://www.macrumors.com/2008/07/02/solid-state-drives-ssd-reduce-battery-life/ What they say makes sense, but given the longer battery life of the Fusion compared to the standard Deva, I'm not certain how this works in the real world. --Marc
Marc Wielage
And wouldn't you know, another published story that insists that an SSD drive runs a little longer on batteries compared to a conventional hard drive: http://blog.laptopmag.com/web-surfing-test-shows-ssds-better-for-battery-life My gut feeling is that the latter makes more sense. No question that a solid-state drive will most likely hold up better in a portable recorder when you're running down the street or get bumped.
