It might be interesting to compare the various home studio setups that I'm sure most of us guys have. Even though we're not all musicians I'm sure there are other video or post sound equipment setups that lurk in garages and spare bedrooms. It would be interesting to compare setups and experiences with the various pro and consumer gear out there. Just a thought. I'll post mine if anyone's interested.

Here's a pic i just snapped of my current home rig.

I just scaled back greatly in the last month or so.

.. I had a lot of rack gear, outboard mixer...etc

It was just taking up too much room so i've been ebaying it all off.

Protools 7.4 LE w/ dvtoolkit

003 console

wave's plugs, bomb factory plugs, guitar rig 2.0

Neve 1272 pre's, API pre's. L47MP mic.

(I used to own nuendo, IMO way better than protools. Moving this direction feels like moving back 8years in progress,

but I needed more compatablity between other studios/post)

I don't have a pic but mine consists of:

Roland VS1680, EAW MS50 monitors, BGW power amp, windows based editing computer with Adobe Premiere Pro production bundle, Roland G800 keyboard, Martin and Fender guitars, Yamaha sound mod, and some other stuff that connects it all up. Basically a music/video recording/editing rig.

Cheers

My mostly unused studio:

P1010001-filtered.jpg

Because I am away for work nearly 10 months of the year, this studio doesn't get as much use as it should. I've recorded a few demos in this little room behind the garage, there is a 5 piece drum kit in the garage, Rickenbacker bass and Fender electric too.

System is a G5 with a MOTU 2408mkIII interface. Front end is from the Studer 169 which really helps the nasty room/mics/converters. Running Cubase SX3 and Pro Tools LE7.

Boy Jason, I'd love to get turned loose in there! Nice one.

That makes 2 of us Mick!

I suppose I shouldn't complain, I get to travel the world working on TV shows, and it sure beats working for a living. My little brother has started using the studio a bit more, recording some demo's with his mates, so it is seeing some action, though I hate to think about other people being in my studio when I'm not there. You know what it's like with other people not treating your gear like you would...

What do you work on that takes you away 10 months of the year? And I know that that's not California with all those bricks!

I work as a sound recordist for a Sydney production company, so they send me around the world, wherever their latest production is. My home studio is in Sydney, Australia but for the next 6 months I'm based in San Francisco working on a new Discovery Channel show. I'm only ever in Sydney for a couple weeks at a time. When production is slow (which isn't very often) I work out of the Sydney audio post production suites, tracklaying and sound designing.

Considering I am mostly a post guy, this is where I spend a lot of my time.  Current system is a Mac Pro with Pro Tools HD.  I also have a Digi 002 that I sometimes hook up my laptop to and use as sort of an "outboard effects unit" if I'm dealing with more real time reverbs than my normal rig can handle (believe me, it's possible).  Speakers are Blue Sky System 1's and a pair of Avantone's.  I also have a pair of Dynaudios that I swap out from time to time and use with a Tannoy sub.  Note that the projector screen is currently not up, but it provides a nice viewing experience.  Other toys include a Digidesign Command 8 and Oxygen 8 Midi controllers, a big SFX library, lots of plug-ins, and an Apogee Mini-Me.  In a spare room I also have a Mac Dual 2.0 G5 with an mbox for when someone else is cutting some sfx for me.

The additional image files posted here are not image files. The first one worked fine but what you need to do is this: after clicking on "Choose File" for the first file and finding it on your computer, you then need to click on (more attachments) to the right of the "Choose File" button --- this will bring up another "Choose File" button for you to add the 2nd image and so forth. A total of 4 images can be added to each post.

Your studio looks great --- I had no idea you had so much gear, instruments and so forth --- how do you ever find the time to do all that stuff.

Hey Jeff thanks, Glad you like the leaky, creaky, always freaky, Studio 1a. Mick, greetings. That is a 1971 Wurlitzer total tone custom. Crazy sounding organ I bought a while back off of craigslist O C for 80 bucks. I really like it. Maybe someday we can jam.

Talk about the opposite of home studios, today I am shooting ay Capital Records. All morning we shot in Studio A where so many worked, like Frank Sinatra. We are now in Studio B, where the Beach Boys did most of their work. Great sound and vibe in both rooms. It is recording heaven. The guys who work here are very friendly and have answered all my many questions. Great way to make my pay today.

Hey Crew,

I've shot there as well.  Man, the walls just drip history.  When I walked outside I expected it to be 1957.  Are the engineers there freaked about the proposed construction next door?  It would be horrible if it messed up their studios.  Ain't nothin' sacred?
